On Sunday night, the premiere of the science documentary series "Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey" on the Oklahoma City Fox affiliate KOKH was briefly interrupted by a local news promo. These things happen all the time on TV. Big deal, right?
Well, it just so happens that host Neil deGrasse Tyson was referring to the theory of evolution just as the accidental preemption occurred. As first reported by the left-leaning website Raw Story, in the omitted portion, Tyson explained how "three and a half million years ago" humans "stood up and parted ways" from our biological "ancestors."

It’d be nice myth deleted from true science more often.
If they press on this, you might get a good laugh by claiming that the part on evolution was omitted, “because it was racist.”
That will turn them for a loop.

Hey you can’t just cut people off like that he might have just been going to show some proof that his little theory was actually true /s- you would think they would have come across a few transitional species by now - I’m sorry I mean ones that weren’t faked.
I've NEVER heard that "humans" have been around for three and a half million years.
Not even from the most hard core evolutionist.
IIRC, "humans" as in people like us, have been thought to exist for maybe a hundred thousand years at MOST.
If this was deliberate by the station, then they are stupid, because it will confirm the bias liberals have of "conservatives" not wanting to hear "the truth"
I watched the show, and thought it was interesting.
Cool graphics, but way too much speculation.
Possibly, this could be, maybe, scientists theorize...etc.
Bottom line is that after all evolution is still a theory.
Pretty good one as far as theories go, but not proof.
And people who don't believe in evolution are not necessarily fools, no matter what the LA Times thinks.
Much more egregious than brief mentions of evolution was the ridiculous detour onto how awful Christians/Catholics were to pseudo-scientific monks.

Depending on the definition you accept, “humans” have been around for either 1.9 million years (Homo Erectus) or 2.33 million years (Homo Habilis). Going on control of fire, sophisticated tool sets, brain capacity, I’d take Homo Erectus as the first to exhibit clearly human behavior. That and his ability to travel to and survive in many different environments. He walked on English beaches, survived the Malaysian/Indonesian jungles and built fires to cook on in his Chinese cave home. Homo Sapiens have just been leaving their bones around for some 200,000 years. Assuming that the laws of physics worked the same in the past as they do today, those dates are accurate through multiple dating methods which confirm each other.
