Why millennials have abandoned Obama
Wa Po ^ | March 14 , 2014 | Dana Milbank

The day before the Iowa caucuses in 2008, I wrote about the massive crowds of young people at Barack Obama rallies, noting that his candidacy would collapse “if they don’t show up.”

The next night, after Obama’s victory celebration in Des Moines, Obama strategist Steve Hildebrand spotted me in a crowd. “The kids showed up!” he said fiercely.

They did. But where are they now?

An army of 15 million voters under 30 swept Obama past Hillary Clinton and John McCain and to the presidency in 2008. More than 12 million helped him return in 2012. But now his presidency is on the line — and the Obama youth are abandoning him in his hour of need.

The administration announced last week that only 1.08 million people ages 18 to 34 had signed up for Obamacare by the end of February, or about 25 percent of total enrollees. If the proportion doesn’t improve significantly, the result likely will be fatal for the Affordable Care Act.

...

Asking them to pay money to join a health-care exchange, it seems, is too tall an order

” and the Obama youth are abandoning him in his hour of need”

Often does when the bill shows up.

The numbers are even worse than they seem.

about 75% of those who have enrolled... are ones who lost their coverage due to Obamacare.

Almost no one who didn’t have coverage before signed up.

I am sure those with AIDS ran to sign up, but anyone else with half a brain didn’t bother.

Many of them have no job, no prospects, and tons of debt.

They are desperate.

Revolutions are often fought by desperate young men with little hope of advancement.

I only know one couple who signed up. They are longterm unemployed and found that obamacare with subsidies was cheaper for them than cobra. They have health issues so it was a win for them I guess.

The young aren’t stupid; they lack experience. Most now have enough experience with obama to understand what he’s all about.

Those young idiots thought it was soooo cool and soooo hip to be part of the group that voted in the first black president. They could brag for decades how they were a ‘part of history.’

They are now disillusioned, unemployed, jaded and broke............................

He killed the economy. They don’t have jobs. The jobs that do exist have slashed their hours so that you could’t afford 0’Care even if you wanted to but even then the insurance has such high deductibles you wouldn’t be able to get any benefit from having it.

Any other questions?

What happened is a little thing I like to call reality. There are two blades, at least, to this particular sword. I've seen multi-bladed swords in movies and at Renaissance fairs, so don't laugh.

First, some of the youth who voted and supported Great Leader are merely talkers and as long as it doesn't cost them anything they will support any leftish cause. It (Great Leader) was cool and free and he promised free goodies. So why not vote for him? They may do so again. But as far as taking money out of their pockets and using energy to sign-up? Don't think so. Rockford Files is on so chill and go away.

The second element, however, are those former supporters who have realized what government mandated health care means. It means that said health care isn't free, that it's an inferior product and that it is unnecessarily complex - as government mandated pudding would be, were there such a thing. So, they're not going to sign-up.

He sounded great when he was handing out free stuff like Santa Claus and claiming “the rich” or someone else would pay for it. Now they are waking up to the fact that there aren’t enough “rich” to pay for this insane spending binge and there is no one else to squeeze for money.

The millenials are more interested in a “free” single-payer health system. They don’t see Obamacare as going far enough.

I have a suspicion that they will vote for Hillary in droves if she promises to steal from someone else and give it to them. It worked for Obama. That and the thrill of voting for skin color. Will the “first” woman be as enticing, regardless of her policies?

“The millenials are more interested in a “free” single-payer health system. They don’t see Obamacare as going far enough.”

60s liberal types are saying the same thing. You know what scares me about obama? As bad as things are, if he could run a third time, I think he’d win again.

I thought the young was able to stay on their parents policies until age 26...., so then they are covered, right?......

But then, what happens when the parents are out of a job, no longer have health care and will not sign up?

What happens when/if the parents sign up for Ocare, does that not BY LAW keep the children under 26 on that OCARE with them?

I am so confused..............

And slashing the EPA, cranking up cheaper coal energy, gutting the Agg department... that would crank up manufacturing and agricultural jobs.

Not sure many have the education to understand how that works.

After learning that, I'm now against Obama Care!

Ahh...po widdle 0bama...his kiddies “abandoning” him in his “hour of need.”

Dana Milbank, geez, get a bib or something to keep your 0bama slobber off your shirt! It’s really pretty gross.

And as for those millenials, they aren’t “abandoning” 0bama so much as they’ve now realized that all along, he was throwing them under the bus. Maybe one day even Milbank will realize that 0bama uses people. It’s what narcissists do.
