The states people are fleeing in 2014
Forbes via MSN ^ | February 13, 2014 | Susan Adams

More people are moving out of New Jersey than are moving in. The same is true for Illinois and New York. Those three states top the "outbound" list compiled by United Van Lines, the big St. Louis-based moving company that has put together an annual survey of where Americans are moving for the last 37 years.

The company analyzed a total of 125,000 moves across the 48 continental states and the District of Columbia in 2013 and came up with a picture of migration patterns across the U.S.

According to Professor Michael Stoll, chair of the Department of Public Policy at the University of California Los Angeles and a consultant to United Van Lines who studies American migration, the moves reflect long-term shifts in the U.S. economy and the hit to employment in many states resulting from the slow recovery.

Of the top nine states where more people moved out than moved in, four are in the Northeast: In addition to New Jersey and New York, Connecticut (No. 5) and Massachusetts (No. 8) make the list. The list also reflects Americans’ desire to leave the frigid states in the north for warmer climes. "Over the last 20-30 years there has been a general shift of the population from the Midwest and Northeast to the South and West, which we think of as a move from the frost belt to the sun belt," Stoll says.

It's all the Liberals who moved to those states, couldn't understand why the welcome wagon wasn't rolled out for them, and moved back as soon as they could. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

It looks more like it's rural people who can't find work -- at least in West Virginia and Kentucky. The part of West Virginia that people are actually moving into is the part nearest DC, and most of the people moving to Mr. Rockefeller's neighborhood are most likely liberals themselves.

Liberals want to export their failed policies from states like IL, NY and NJ to the ‘red’ states and are having quite a bit of success.

That way there will eventually be no reason for anyone to move south or west, other than the weather.

And soon even the weather won’t be a factor.

Thanks to Global Warming the Adirondack mountains will become ocean front property and we will be growing most of our citrus and tomatoes in the balmy states of Montana and North Dakota.

Ya, the article seems to think people are moving out because it is cold in those states. How about people moving out because the want freedom? Those states are the ones that more closely aligned with the fed government and are therefore more similar in political control. Don’t forget, Romney is from Mass.

I’m sure it is taxes and freedom

However when TSHTF and it becomes a lot of WORK to stay warm in the winter, you’ll see a lot of the entitlement army head south.

What on earth is the draw to Oregon?

It's really pretty there. But, as you point out, it is positively infested with libtards.

If I were moving, I'd probably pick Nevada, Texas, Colorado, or Washington (pretty, like Oregon, but without an income tax, despite the best efforts of Mr Bill's dad). Or one of the Dakotas, if I needed work.

What on earth is the draw to Oregon? I mean the unemployed barristas that move to Portland CAN’T AFFORD United Van Lines... and don’t have furniture to move anyways.

OR is where fed up CA residents go.

A close friend went to Coos Bay because he could pay cash for a house overlooking the bay, with a 4 car garage.

As an example.

I guess you are visiting some of the areas for a look. You may choose something
along or south of I 40. But remember the summers down south can be hot
especially to someone not used to them. Get south of I 20 and you’ll have very
little ice/snow to deal with, but hotter summers. Did I mention humidity?

It is not new for WV to lose population. Remember OB is determined to kill the coal industry,

We moved to soCal from WV in 59. I noticed in the 1960 census and think a couple of times thereafter WV lost population.

On trips home, I would ask where all the young men were, after seeing all the young women rocking babies on their porches. I was told out of state college or military and they don’t come back.

Saved this a while back, a neat visualization tool to see where people are coming from and going to in any county you want to pick, at least up to 2010:

Cool Map

Neat. Click on Cook County, Illinois. Seems to be spurting people everywhere.

Very helpful, thank you. Yes, the plan is to identify and rank my criteria, research locations based on that, and then visit several for a week to get the real experience.

Good info.
I could NEVER understand Chicago as a concept.
High cost of living, high taxes of all types, cold winter, hot summer, crime, etc.

As most of you have noted here’s the problem. They are moving Red States toward purple. It’s not like these are Conservative migrations. Furthermore, they are leaving states that will be blue until the Rapture.

Did I mention humidity?

I'm in AZ. We don't believe in that nonsense. DST, either.

I keep telling all the DST complainers to head down there and they can vote against McLame in 2016.
