Baristas hope packing pistols will discourage robberies ( WA )
The Spokesman-Review ^ | March 19, 2014 | Jody Lawrence-Turner

Coffee stand hit three times.

Krystal Cogswell wears a holstered pistol on her hip while pulling espresso at Jitterz Java in Northwest Spokane.

“I figure if they can see it, maybe it will be a deterrent, apparently being a girl isn’t enough,” the 24-year-old said.

Robbers have struck Jitterz Java twice in February. On Sunday, a man who appeared to be armed ran off after a barista grabbed her gun and called police.

The recent string of violence has owner Sara Chapel fed up. “The way I’ve been scheduling the girls is that at least one girl who carries a gun is always on shift,” she said. The women will carry their own personal handguns that they’ve been trained to use.

Chapel has encouraged all of her employees to seek firearms training.

Hmm...my usual order is, “I’ll have a double, straight shots, please.” I might have to rephrase that... BTT

I’m sure Holder is already sending the gestapo to deal with these people who think it’s ok to arm themselves.

As long as she knows she’s outta reach!

Otherwise, she’s likely to be disarmed and have it used against her!

That’s the importance of “concealed” carry!

They don’t “know” that you have it, but it’s there if you need it.

It will be interesting to see where those drive through coffee shop baristas who wear only bikinis will ‘keep their heat?’

From the Constitution Maine will vote on June 12, 2018:

Section 6. The Militia and the standing army of 1,000. So as to insure and guarantee the rights guaranteed in this Constitution, every natural born male in the Republic of Maine, upon reaching the age of 18 years from conception through age 67 years from conception, has, as a member of the Militia, the obligation to keep and bear arms for the common defense, for his and his families protection, to defend against this government or any government in the future from becoming oppressive, tyrannical, or in any other way obnoxious to freedom, and to secure the rights written in this Constitution. This obligation shall never be questioned. No law shall be passed that restricts this obligation, except for time in a local jail, county jail or Maine Republic prison. No law shall be passed, test given, or fee assessed to any citizen of the Republic of Maine, age 18 from the age of conception, both male and female, that would restrict in any way that citizens right to be armed either concealed or open. Males who are found to be or confess to being homosexuals are refused entry and from serving in either the Militia or the standing army. Males over the age of 67 may be voluntary members of the Militia with the full rights of Militia members. Natural born males between the age of 16 years from conception to 18 years from conception may volunteer for Militia service with the written permission of parents or guardians. The standing army of 1,000 shall be drawn from the Militia by the commander of the Militia and is under the command of the commander of the Militia who is appointed by and reports directly to the President.

We figure she is right, just seeing a gun is often all it takes to make a criminal think twice. Especially when you factor this in:

Section 7. All human life is precious and a gift from God. Age is counted from the moment life begins, which is at the moment of conception and as such, all human life is protected from conception to death and has the full rights of this Constitution from conception. Any citizen of the Republic of Maine may use what ever force he or she deems necessary to protect human life. All abortions are considered first degree premeditated murder, children are entrusted, by God the Creator to that child's parents and as such are the responsibility of the parents, not the state, no level of Government whether local, county or Republic is to, in any way, over rule a parent in the rearing, educating, and/or influencing that child in any way.

Sounds good, but "has, as a member of the Militia," is somewhat ambiguous. Does that mean those males are automatically members of the Militia, or does it mean that if they are...etc.

[Oops, I mis-read that as an already existing constitution.]

In any event Maine has very low crime rates. OTOH, Maine's 95% white population might have something to do with it.

Gutsy girl. I hope she is right.

Most perps wont want anything to do with that. But, on the otherhand, some perp sees it and may take it from her, etc. etc.

With that many recent robberies, something needs to be done.

I prefer mine concealed, unless I am making a statement about open carry.

What you read is not the current it is the part of the Constitution that will be voted on June 12, 2018. With that vote, Maine will leave the Union and be the first state to be free. No IRS, No EPA, No Dept of ED or Energy, No FBI, No IRS, NO BATF.

A right to work country that cannot ever join the UN, a country that has only 1,000 men serving in the active military, but that is enough to insure our freedom and borders.

A country where education is prohibited to the Republic and counties, and is restricted to the local community second and the parent first, a country by Constitution rewards families that homeschool.

A country that, by Constitution, defines anyone entering through other than a legitimate border crossing, is defined as an armed attacker and can be dealt with as the such.

From the actual article, “The police wouldn’t comment on Chapel’s decision to encourage armed baristas, said Spokane Police Department spokeswoman Monique Cotton. “We would encourage anyone in any situation to call us. We have excellent response times.” “

“The police arrived on scene in three minutes on Feb. 18 and 28 and in four minutes on March 16.”

Well good for them.

I usually plan my safety according this:
“Dial 911 and Die”

Aaron Zelman of JPFO is one of the authors.

“Most perps wont want anything to do with that. But, on the otherhand, some perp sees it and may take it from her, etc. etc.”

This has been discussed extensively on the open carry gun sites. Turns out there’s been ZERO instances recorded of that happening nationwide despite plenty of open carry going on. Happens sometimes (rarely) to cops, but not to civilians. It sounds reasonable to say “might” and “maybe” but the actual facts prove otherwise.

Her whole point is to have it visible as a DETERENCE. This works. Lots of reports of a bad guy avoiding a holstered gun once it was spotted. Never been a case reported nationwide of an open carry gun being grabbed from a citizen. Happens sometimes to cops, though.

A response time of three minutes? Four minutes?

When seconds count, the police are minutes away.

Yea, I think generally you are correct.

If a perp sees it, he will want to go to where the pickings will be easier, and leave her alone. Similar to making the house entry difficult and alarmed. If a perp sees that the house he may be entering is alarmed, he usually goes to easier pickings.

This is why self defense with guns work. Society is safer if perps think someone may have a gun. And this is why gun control and gun free zones don’t work. But this is just common sense.
