Jobless claims up modestly, but labor market healing
Reuters ^ | March 20, 2014 | Lucia Mutikani

(Reuters) - The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits rose less than expected last week, pointing to some underlying strength in the labor market.

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits increased 5,000 to a seasonally adjusted 320,000, the Labor Department said on Thursday. Claims for the week ended March 8 were unrevised.

Economists polled by Reuters had forecast first-time applications for jobless benefits rising to 325,000 in the week ended March 15.

The four-week moving average for new claims, considered a better measure of underlying labor market conditions as it irons out week-to-week volatility, fell 3,500 to 327,000, the lowest level since November.

I just looked up unemployment rates in the sixth year of Bush’s presidency to compare with this current situation.

By month:

4.7/ 4.8/ 4.7/ 4.7/ 4.6/ 4.6/ 4.7/ 4.7/ 4.5/ 4.4/ 4.5/ 4.4

Why is our side so damn bad at influencing public opinion? This should be the constant drumbeat

“Jobs claims up slightly, but labor market healing” - certainly not a Reuters Headline during GW’s terms.

Jobless claims did not go up as much as expected (even though that would have been "unexpected") and that's a sign on improvement.
That's if you believe the numbers in the first place.
Liberal Logic! <Sigh>

Actual unemployment is 37.2%, ‘misery index’ worst in 40 years.

Labor market healing and only 90,000.000 more people to hire before all is well.

“Why is our side so damn bad at influencing public opinion? This should be the constant drumbeat”

Because the truth is kept from the public. THAT is what our side needs to fix desperately; Obama’s re-election should have brought about the mass resignation of Republicans in disgrace. With unemployment so high, inflation so obvious, and no light at the end of the tunnel, that re-election showed a frightening display of what control of the media can do. For anyone who never understood the ascent of Nazism, they should take a long, hard look at the presidential election of 2012.

This “boy of a president” works for the same bosses the media does; I don;t imagine they hold Obama in any high regard. He is the dopey face put on an evil agenda; he really thought he mattered until he was spanked for his opposition to “gay marriage”. He made amends by “evolving” on the issue, and now is the target for the slings and arrows of a public that is watching the country deteriorate even further. I have never met anyone (including liberals) that personally likes or respects Token Obama; they may embrace various aspects of the Dem agenda, but they see him as an ignorant token just rubber-stamping whatever the Bolsheviks put in front of him.

The problem's not us, it's the loony left newsers and their hapless followers.  Our only mistake w/ them is putting in the effort to explain things; imho we'd be better off just ignoring and replacing them.
