I don’t see how this plan could possibly fail unless economics is real.
A San Francisco Bay Area city is on track to have the highest minimum wage in California. The Richmond City Council voted 6-1 on Tuesday in favor of an ordinance that would raise minimum hourly pay in the city to $12.30 an hour by 2017.
Richmond’s unemployment rate is somewhere between 11 and 14 percent. Its unemployment rate for black men is 36%.
It’s the third most dangerous city in California and its 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th top employers are all the government. And it has a huge gang problem. So clearly the thing to do is make the city as unattractive as possible to small businesses while eliminating lower end jobs in order to help the gangs expand.
But that just means more opportunities for scenes like these.
A bloody fistfight broke out among rival gang members at Richmond City Hall on Friday, according to police.
Seven men from different parts of the city brawled in a third-floor suite that houses the citys Office of Neighborhood Safety around 12:30 p.m. Friday, department director Devone Boggan said.
He said all of the men involved in the melee are enrolled in the offices Operation Peacemaker fellowship and happened to show up at the office at Richmonds Civic Center at the same time unexpectedly.
The ONS director said he sees the unarmed brawl as a sign of progress, since the young men involved all have a history of gun violence.
They decided to pick their fists up instead of a gun, Boggan said.
Things are looking bright for Richmond indeed.
All you can do is bow you head and shake it back and forth.
This is really puzzling. Prosperity wages but no jobs? Rather like the contradiction the liberals point out between high rates of incarceration and low rates of crime. Obviously racism is the root of both problems.
I like to put my right foot in and shake it all about.
I have BEEN to Richmond....20 years ago at the latest
It may as well have been Detroit By The Bay..20 years ago.
Even Al Sharpton wont go to Richmond
People don’t deserve jobs unless they can get paid at least $15 an hour. Pull up that ladder fast.
Good news: We've raised the minimum wage.
Bad news: We can't afford you.
many In Richmond actually believe that the hokey pokey -is - what it’s all about
Does each gang own a city council seat?
Why don’t they raise taxes and promote homosexuality ?
With the increased revenue they could expand abortions and gun buy backs
I can think of a good place for our right foot, in conjunction with that city council.
The entire state is a sick, pathetic joke.
Richmond is also the city that wants to seize mortgages by Eminent Domain - don’t know if they’ve done that ...
I shake my head but KNOW those govt workers there are obscenely paid and have obscene retirement, benefits, health care, vacation and time off policies...and STILL have no productivity..
RE: Richmond is also the city that wants to seize mortgages by Eminent Domain - dont know if theyve done that ...
If they attempted that, they can always use the KELO vs New London, CT case as precedent ( Thank you Justice Souter ).
BTW, After the private properties were seized in the Kelo case ( which was supposed to be developed by Pfizer ), the entire place is still an empty, deserted shell almost 10 years later. NOTHING was developed and the property seizure was done for NOTHING.
The last time I was there was 1990. I thought it was a ghetto then, but I believe saying it is Detroit by the Bay is an accurate call.
The 1980’s was the last time i will ever venture into that part of the bay area...
and to think I used to drive a cab in Oakland.on the second shift....in the early 197o’s
What??? Didn’t Obummer and the “Experts” tell us that a $10 minimum wage would fix our economy? They wouldn’t lie to us, again, would’ they?
