Female MPs in Kenya have stormed out of a late-night parliamentary session in a row over the legalisation of polygamy.
The law is intended to bring civil law, where a man is only allowed one wife, into line with customary law, where some cultures allow multiple partners.
But male MPs voted to amend the new marriage bill to allow men to take as many wives as they like without consulting existing spouses.
Traditionally, first wives are supposed to give prior approval.
The women walked out in disgust over the matter.

MP Samuel Chepkong'a, who proposed the amendment, said that when a woman got married under customary law, she understood that the marriage was open to polygamy, so no consultation was necessary, Kenya's Daily Nation newspaper reports.
Mohammed Junet, an MP representing a constituency from the western Nyanza province, agreed.
"When you marry an African woman, she must know the second one is on the way and a third wife… this is Africa," Kenya's Capital News website quotes him as saying.
Plans to ban the payment of bride prices were dropped - although a person must be 18 to marry and this will apply to all cultures.
Proposals to ensure equal property and inheritance rights were also watered down - a woman will be entitled to 30% of matrimonial property after death or divorce.
Kenya's marriage bill: Specifies that marriage is between a man and a woman, but does not explicitly ban custom of an infertile woman marrying a younger woman.

I have to wonder how “proud” Barry and Mooshelle will be that his “homeland” has kicked women to the curb in marriage rights.
IIRC, Christian marriages were legally protected against polygamy, but it doesn’t look like Christian women can prevent their husbands from adding a wife to the marriage without even prior notice much less permission.
I just love the 7th century.

I saw a similar article posted in The Daily Nation, Kenya’s largest newspaper. Then I went into the archives and read an older feature piece on BHO Sr. He claimed Luo customs applied not only to multiple wives but also to one night stands. He brought a succession of women to the house he shared with Ruth and had sex with them there. She wasn’t supposed to mind...but she did.
According to the piece, everyone on their street knew they had a horrific marriage, and even knew the details. In between the beatings, BHO Sr. did a lot of yelling and screaming. Given the level of abuse, it’s no wonder David turned to alcohol and eventually died an alcohol-related death. [He’s mentioned at several key junctures in the Daily Nation piece.] The more amazing fact is that Mark is still okay. He’s a true survivor.
Btw, the second largest Kenyan paper, The Standard, mentions David too. It cites his death from the motorcycle accident.
Don’t mock them too much, this is coming to the US very soon. Homo marriage has opened Pandora’s box and polygamy will be the first thing out, most likely followed by a whole host of other things.
You are correct. Much whoopee will be made in certain “conservative” quarters.
So, did the female MP’s run out to find husbands?

Homosexual marriage did not open anything.
No fault divorce killed the baby.
Homosexual marriage, polygamy, polyandry, bestiality...all of those are just dirty bathwater.
Before no fault divorce, Homosexuals with extremely few exceptions wanted nothing to do with marriage. Because despite any posturing to the contrary they know they will be promiscuous and the financial consequences of that in a divorce was way to big a risk.
To fix things, focus on where society veared off course. Don’t try to be broken but in a lesser way.

I know that BHO Sr. died in an alcohol related crash but I don’t remember David being associated with alcohol or mentioned in a Daily Nation article.
The Mal-Val cult would be hard pressed to explain this Daily Nation coverage.

Amen! Nothing has been so destructive in the US and western countries than the divorce industry that encourages women to blowup their families for cash and prizes. That weakened family structure then gave rise to the rest.
