Nonsense. This is a recent phenomenon as a result of Putin’s hand picked leader for Ukraine making the mistake of trying to integrate Ukraine with Europe. Putin vetoed that. The Ukrainians rebelled.

If Putin heads toward Kiev Gov. it’ll be bloody violent IMO. ..and we both know why. Unless Putin uses special agents to clear them out.

11. Obama's obsession with the homosexual agenda. 12. Obama's promotion of statism.

I can go on.

But you think Russians will take on Putin's Crimea debt when they figure out how much it is.

BTW you note news on missing ship has conveniently taken over news sources over Ukraine and Russia....this is a joint effort to have the hype in Ukraine and with Russia calm down and be forgotten by the general public. Big Boys are running the show!

My extended family members in the Crimea are being ruined financially by the Russian takeover. Of course they worked hard and conducted an honest hotel business at the beach. Now the Russians are ratcheting up corruption two more levels.

“....there is no Russian leader who will allow an independent Ukraine with Crimea...”

Quite correct, in their world view.

Russia has fought isolation for centuries, and Crimea is, and always has been, the outlet for that. Russia had no means to secure Crimea during the breakup, and even again in the 1992 treaty negotiations. Anarchy and a potentially hostile government in Kiev was just the circumstance required to force a move.

You can’t compare that to an America world view, because we have always had numerous ways to access the world.

For the Ukraine, it’s a huge slap in the face, saying that they failed to administer their own country properly. For the people of Crimea, it’s a chance at future far more prosperous than now. Lots of factors at work here.

And, through it all, an American Administration that is moved by ego, news cycles, and corrupt cronyism, that still can’t see how to handle this.

They would rather ignore it, but the powers that control them want their investments protected.

1932-33

While Ukrainians were starving, the USSR was exporting grain grown in Ukraine. NKVD (later became KGB) units were sent into Ukraine to confiscate food and patrol fields to make sure no-one “stole” the crops that the USSR was growing for export.

Any Ukrainian, including children, caught taking food from the fields was shot on the spot.

Not only that, there's really not much to stop him. Ukraine's armed forces are spread out too far and wrecked by budget cuts. The only organized forces that could stop a Russian mech drive through Ukraine are the NATO forces, but there's really no stomach for getting into a fight. Like him or not, he has a realistic view of his adversaries and works his timing well.

Silly....there’s far more sources covering Ukraine and Crimea and Russia then simply RT for crying out loud... RT is simply one of many out there....maybe you need to enlarge your reading sites from those sites feeding your fears.

From Russia’s view, after watching what happened in Tunisia, Egypt, and being lied to about what would happen in Libya, with the same actors now active in Syria and Ukraine, exactly what was Putin supposed to do? Accept the status quo?

Too many advantages in Putin’s hand not act, at that point, not the least of which being a weakling US President, not interested in foreign policy.

It’s a Machiavellian world out there, not the world of pretty ponies and shiny rainbow flags, as the US TV would like to portray.

Russia unfortunately posseses the two most powerful strategic weapons.... oil and nukes....and no doubt he’s not afraid to use either if push comes to shove.

Not so sure he wants war in Ukraine...at least until the EU bails them out of their financial straits and that won’t be any time soon. Nobody wants to take on Ukraine currently...too unstable and the people have to come together and take care of their country...doesn’t look like they want to do that just yet...and the Leadership isn’t doing such a great job getting them to that point.

This has been coming ever since Cypress when they stole Russian money out of there and against agreements formerly agreed on...Putin has no reason to trust the EU or US...and if you listen to his speech the day they annexed Crimea you hear what ‘s at the heart of all this we see playing out..from his perspective.

You can't avoid war without understanding what your opponent is “feeling” and “thinking “ about....Putin made that clear in his speech going back to all the times EU reneged on their agreements.....it's a good listen even if you might not agree with his talking points..it's what he believes....the Eu and the US are not hearing him...and haven't for a very long time.

“Not so sure he wants war in Ukraine...”

Yes, he would like to return Ukraine to the sphere of Russian influence. But Putin isn’t stupid, Ukraine is an economic basket case rife with corruption, on a scale that would make even a Russian blush.

Instead, because Ukraine cannot rule itself, he can just pick off the valuable parts one at a time, as they come to him for help, and wait until the rest comes crawling, begging for rescue.

The REAL loser here is Open Society/Soros Group, IMHO. Someone is finally standing up to them. And they aren’t going to take kindly to losing the billions they have invested in causing chaos. I think this is far from over.

True. The horrors that Putin’s employers (the KBB, many whom must have been still in service when he joined) inflicted on the Ukrainians are similar, not in total number but still in the millions, to what the NAZIS did the Jews. How FReepers can act like this former KGB piece of feces is a not a monster now while he terrorizes nation long brutalized by Russian and the Soviets is beyond me.
