I have a friend that was apprehensive to get into a Corvette I owned because the body was made of fiberglass.
I had to explain to him that the body of the car doesn’t protect you in an accident and that it’s merely a shell.
The most impressive one I heard of was of three guys who were boosting car stereos in a club parking lot when they were spotted by a female cop. They fired on her, not hitting her, before speeding off in their car down a snaking half mile of smooth road. Their driver really floored it, and must have been doing over 60 when he ran the read light at the intersection.
Perpendicular to him was a semi truck at about the same speed. Their car, and them, disintegrated. They had to shut down an entire block in the direction the truck was heading for over a day, as police did a thorough search with tongs and plastic bags. They found bits of car and person on top of several buildings downrange.
They never did identify the decedents. This was before DNA was widely used for that purpose.
Did they look in the Indian Ocean?

I’m going to presume this was a new model SUV with anti-lock brakes. Is it possible to lock up anti-lock brakes?
I tried to make some inquiries of individual policemen after the fact, and the local cops didn’t even want to think about it, much less talk about it. So I asked a cop in an adjacent city if they had heard anything, and he said he got about the same response from cops in the first city he had talked with.
I guess spending a nice, hot day with tongs and baggies picking up the pieces of somebody’s sweet, shattered dreams is a bit much, even for experienced cops.

I don’t know what that had to do with my statement, but yea, I’d like to see Kalifornia drop off.
