Eighteen year-old Jordan Wiser is training to be a firefighter. He’s a certified emergency vehicle operator who works as a first responder when he’s not attending high school. And, after just spending 13 days in jail, he’s now facing felony charges for weapons possession.
The weapon? A pocketknife. It was in his EMT vest, and he uses it to cut through seatbelts when he’s practicing saving lives.

Did you get your pen back? Cross makes very nice pens....Nope. And it was a graduation gift from my sister when I got my MBA. Wrote letters and got the reply that because of all the confiscated ‘contraband’ they get, there is no accounting. I read “One of those ignorant AA workers kept it.”
Unfortunately, the job application asks if you were ever arrested for a felony. Doesn't matter that you may eventually win in court. The kid's right, the damage has already been done.
Damage has indeed been done, but not enough to derail his life. He will have to have an uploaded account of the whole charade to print out on every application. He could even use it as an opportunity to engage at a personal level. Most people are coming to loathe the existing police state mentality. There might even be a malicious prosecution case in there, although those are -hard- to make stick (by design).
IMO, just as in testimony, the question should be: “Have you ever been -convicted- of a felony? If so, explain in detail.”
People need to look closely, and listen attentively to who they consider for the high and dangerous office of prosecutor. It is a complex and difficult task, and is not for those whose solution is to cruise on autopilot.
This story sounds like the old saying when you are walking through the neighbors watermelon patch, don't stop to tie your shoes.
Also not stated, is on what authority was his vehicle searched? Did they have a warrant? And who is "they". Then there's the thirteen days in jail, really? His family left him in jail?
It just sounds to me like this story was written to stir up the right or just purely for sensationalism. It's full of holes.

Isn’t it a shame that obama’s “My Brother’s Keeper” never had guys like this in mind to save from unfair prosecution. The leftists in the schools and the DA’s offices will destroy this kid’s life over stupid ideology, and sleep at night like babies never noting the cruel double standard.
Of course, it would be best if the “zero tolerance” attitude were completely nuked, along with most of the teachers and admin drones who pimp it.
This arrest was a statistical necessity. Any child who is not a member of a “protected class” with an odd shaped pop-tart is subject to arrest. It makes the statistics look good.
Oh, there are atill plenty of real criminals of school age, but Eric Holder has just sent down the word that bcause of the discrepency in the statistictics of gangbangers being expelled, and kids of a different demographic not being expelled for chewing gum in class, that the gangbangers are no longer to be punished. The Zero Tolerance policies will apply only to white and Asian kids.

There is something about this story that makes no sense. The two stories I’ve read (both which are secondary sources linked to the Huffington Post) include this line: “For his crime, Wiser was carted off to jail for 13 days.”
The problem is that he has not had a trial yet. SO yes, he could have been arrested and put in jail pending a trial. But he would not have gone for “13 days” “for his crime”.
Since he hasn’t gone to trial, it seems clear he got out of jail pending the trial. And there is no reason that could not have happened the next day. Why did it take 13 days to get him out on bail, or on his own recognizance? It is clear he is not a flight risk.
One article said he had to wear an ankle monitor, and move all his weapons to his grandparents house, and would not be allowed to see his grandfather. It also sounds like he went in front of more than one judge.
It also sounds like something in his posted videos seems to have spooked more than just a couple of people. I haven’t watched the videos, so I don’t know.
This whole “can’t have a weapon in your car” is stupid, but it is what happens when you have one law for an entire state, which has to include inner city schools where there are a large number of students who DO want to bring weapons and commit felonies.
Long ago, I worked retail and had a favorite (not disposable, but not expensive either) pen. I put it down on the counter for a moment and then looked up to see a customer on the other side of the counter putting it into his shirt pocket.
I have trouble believing this would really destroy one’s career chances especially once one described what happened and the details.

He is screwed ,, the job apps usually ask about felonies or misdemeanors that resulted in 3+ days in jail... if you answer yes your app gets shitcanned ,, no chance to explain .. if you answer “no” you get caught in the screening and are canned.
The fools who wrote and enforced this asinine law are the ones that should be doing time -— in the Nut House.
