Alaska is one of seven states which have a Democratic-held Senate seat up this year and which voted for Mitt Romney in 2012. Nate Silver of 538 and Chris Cillizza of the Washington Post's The Fix rate the seat, held by former Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich, as the least likely Republican turnover of the seven; 538 rates Begich's chances at 55 percent. Stuart Rothenberg rates it as toss-up/tilt Democrat, while Charlie Cook, slightly more bearish on Begich's chances, rates it as one of five pure toss-ups.
Others may move in that direction given the latest polling from Rasmussen Reports. It shows an even race, 44 percent to 44 percent, between Begich and Republican challenger Dan S. Sullivan, and perhaps a bit surprisingly, Republican Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell leading Begich 47 percent to 44 percent.

Every challenger’s TV ad must show the Democrat senator along side Obama. Because you won’t see them with each other this year.
It’s not trailing the FIRST time, it’s when he trails the LAST time. Good riddance.
Begich deserves to lose. If the Dems hadn’t cooked up the phony charges against Sen Stevens, he might still be alive. Begich benefited from the phony charges and now he needs to go.
I’m not too sure people in AK will vote Republican anymore unless it’s a hard-left one.
Thanks SMGFan.
Begich voted with "O" every time, but his real claim to fame is Obama Care and he can't get away from it; going to run him into oblivion. WE live out in the sticks, never owned a cell phone, no workey out here, so I get a poll at least once a week. Boy do I give them an ear full. Begich should just retire in lower 48 where he belongs.
WE sure don’t vote like you guys do down there, Thank God. Keep paying your high taxes and giving up your freedoms; you lower 48 slaves.
Good, yay!...let the trend continue!
The first time I saw the new Begich ad blaming the Koch brothers for the ads running against him I about spit out my beer laughing. That’s veering off into looney Leftsville, and it’s only March. The average voter doesn’t have the faintest idea who Koch brothers are, nor do they care, but the idea appeals to the moonbat base. That’s going to make it more difficult for Marky to come home and pretend he’s a really a conservative despite consistently voting with Harry Reid and Obama in Washington.
