Obama dismisses Russia as ‘regional power’ acting out of weakness

THE HAGUE — President Obama acknowledged Tuesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s annexation of Crimea would be difficult to reverse, but he dismissed Russia as a “regional power” that did not pose a leading security threat to the United States.

Concluding a summit here on nuclear security, Obama also warned that broader Russian military intervention in neighboring countries would trigger further economic sanctions that would disrupt the global economy but hit Russia the hardest.

“Russia is a regional power that is threatening some of its immediate neighbors — not out of strength but out of weakness,” Obama said in response to a reporter’s question about whether his 2012 election opponent, Mitt Romney, was right to characterize Russia as America’s biggest geopolitical foe.

“They don’t pose the number one national security threat to the United States,” Obama said in a news conference. “I continue to be much more concerned when it comes to our security with the prospect of a nuclear weapon going off in Manhattan.”

Defending his response to the Ukraine crisis, Obama dismissed criticism that a perception of weakness abroad had prompted Putin to seize Ukraine’s autonomous Crimea region this month, an act the United States and Europe have called a violation of both Ukrainian and international law. But Obama made clear that no military response is being contemplated, unless Putin pushes into NATO member nations on Russia’s western border.

Obama opens his mouth and once again proves that he is an idiot.

Ridiculous is right. Obama called him a regional power on the same day that they are delivering one of our astronauts to the space station because we no longer have that capability.

Zero stopped caring about being President 2 years ago. It’s all just a hassle for him now.

Did you note that obama said it would be bad for the global economy but Russia will be affected the most. I contend this is the plan. Then comes the UN and one world government. I used to say the muslims would never go along with it. I’m now hoping Putin won’t go along with it either.

By who? Certainly not AQ, right? Since we defeated them a few years ago, right?

Russia is a global superpower, not a regional power.

Someone is feeding BS to the BS master.

What happened: Obama, smarting from Romney’s on-target, blistering criticism, responds like a whiny, immature adolescent in order to make what he thinks is a smart political point and to preserve his fragile ego. In the process he stupidly antagonizes a nuclear power that has very recently demonstrated the willingness to aggressively annex its neighbor. Brilliant! As someone else said, this is what happens when you have an affirmative action President.

This is the get ready for war paradigm I trained for all those years ago. The Cold War is reborn and we're commanded by Curly from the stooges. I never missed Reagan as much as I do right now. If any of the Republicans in the 2012 lineup had won the Oval, we likely wouldn't be in this mess right now.

Oh yeah, very weak. That’s why Putin’s busy setting up bases in the newly Communist countries in Latin America, extending his influence through Iran...oh, all those good things.

Obama is such a fool.

At least we now know what Obama’s foreign policy is: If a ‘’regional power’’ like Russia takes over another country in its own region like Crimea, the Obama administration will dismiss it as irrelevant since it doesn’t ‘’pose a leading security threat to the United States.’’

Okay, Xi Jinping of China, you can now take over any country in your region, just like Vladimir Putin can take over any country in Russia’s region, and you won’t hear a peep out of the United States president except maybe to call you weak. And Kim Jung Un, what are you waiting for? North Korea is a regional power, so you’re now allowed to drop one of your nuclear warheads on Japan since it’s part of your region. Isn’t this fun?

Somebody tell him that the Russians have nuclear weapons that could go off in Manhattan, DC, Chicago, California and Hawaii.

In 1960, Nikita Krushchev said “We will destroy America”, then sent a Kenyan communist agent to Hawaii to meet a meet a female leftist named Stanley.
The rest is unfortunate history...
