Secret Service Agents in Obama’s Detail Sent Home from Netherlands After Night of Drinking
The Washington Post ^ | Tuesday, March 25, 2014 | Carol D. Leonnig and David Nakamura

Three Secret Service agents responsible for protecting President Obama in Amsterdam this week were sent home and put on administrative leave Sunday after going out for a night of drinking, according to three people familiar with the incident. One of them was found drunk and passed out in a hotel hallway, the people said.

The hotel staff alerted the U.S. Embassy in the Netherlands after finding the unconscious agent Sunday morning, a day before Obama arrived in the country, according to two of the people. The embassy then alerted Secret Service managers on the presidential trip, which included Secret Service Director Julia Pierson.

Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan confirmed Tuesday evening that the agency “did send three employees home for disciplinary reasons” and that they were put on administrative leave pending an investigation. Donovan declined to comment further.

According to two people familiar with the Amsterdam incident, the three individuals are all members of the Secret Service’s Counter Assault Team, known in the agency as CAT, and one was serving in a supervisory position.

The alleged behavior would violate new Secret Service rules adopted in the wake of a damaging scandal in Cartagena, Colombia, in April 2012, when a dozen Secret Service agents and officers had been drinking heavily and had brought prostitutes back to their hotel rooms prior to the president’s arrival for an economics summit.

Honestly, I might get blasted for this, but I don’t see the big deal. The President was not in the country so what the heck. As long as they did their job before drinking, who cares….also as long as they are sober when the President gets there then who cares if they got sloppy drunk. Another reason why America is such a mambo pamby country.

Are they White?

In another instance, the Whites were sent home, although the culprit(s) was Black.

What is happening with the Secret Service under Dear Leader? This used to be an organization that commanded respect, or so I thought.

Really?

What about their actions during Slick Willie's administration when they were doing legal back flips to avoid testifying about what they knew of his behavior?

Passed out in the hall? How does a guy like that even get INTO the Secret Service or hold on to his job, much less at that level?

The quality of government hires, at all levels, does seem to have changed a bit in recent years.

"The heck" is are those involved in advanced teams, know codes, movement details, techniques and other sensitive information. All of which could compromise security and the way things are done. If a drunk SS agent was picked up while drunk, abducted, held for ransom, forced to talk, or just have his ID stolen etc., it would not only be a major incident/threat to security but an international incident/embarrassment...

You get it.

One would think that these people are hanging out with each other, and that they are not only aware of each other and monitoring each other to a degree, but security in general, that situational awareness and caution's about compromise are built into the work.

These are the president's security experts preparing for a presidential visit in a foreign country, security is what they do. If a movie portrayed them getting drunk and sleeping in the hotel halls, we wouldn't believe it.
