What the hell is this, a joke? Boehner said at his weekly press conference.
He was responding to the administrations announcement on Tuesday evening that people who had begun the process of signing up for insurance through the federal exchanges would have until mid-April to do so, instead of March 31.
The Speaker called the move another deadline made meaningless, adding it to a litany of unilateral changes that the administration has made to the law.
This is part of a long-term pattern of this administration manipulating the law for its own convenience, Boehner said. Its not hard to understand why the American people question this administrations commitment to the rule of law.
The Speaker mocked the use of the honor system to determine who was eligible for an extension after the administration said it would make no effort to ensure that people had actually begun the process of signing up by March 31.
Why dont they just say, Weve moved the date to April 15? Because thats in effect what theyve done, Boehner said.
Administration officials cited a surge in demand as a reason for the extension, which they said is aimed at people with special circumstances and complex cases.
Open enrollment ends March 31, Health and Human Services spokeswoman Joanne Peters told The Hill in an email Tuesday evening. We are experiencing a surge in demand and are making sure that we will be ready to help consumers who may be in line by the deadline to complete enrollment either online or over the phone.
Republicans have attacked the healthcare law from virtually every angle, criticizing both its underlying regulations and the administrations repeated decision to delay or not fully enforce them. Boehner has criticized the early problems with the HealthCare.gov website, and on Wednesday, he was pressed on why people shouldnt have more time to sign up for insurance because of them.
The dates are the dates, and the law is the law, he said. The president doesnt have the authority to change the law whenever he wants, which he continues to do.
Boehner added later in the press conference: The law says that enrollment stops at the end of March. Thats what the law says. Ive got to live by the law; youve got to live by the law; the American people have got to live by the law. And guess what? The president needs to live by the law as well.
Power of purse does not apply to laws already passed.
For example the House can not stop Obamacare expenditures without passing a new law to stop them. Such law will not pass senate and will be vetoed by the community organizer.
Don’t they teach how our government works in schools anymore?
actually isn’ t boner incorrect? didn’ t barrycades illegally extend the deadline to march 31st already?
Very good point you make!!
sociopath smiling. couldn’t do a better joker if he was trying.
Boner has plenty of power to stick a fork into the works.
No, it’s Obamacare, show some rspect
naw boehner. you’re the joke and all the dems are laughing.
Pelosi, Reid, and Boehner walk into a bar . . .
Reply of the week!
The Cruz/Lee/Paul’s 21 hour Obamacare Filibuster last fall was a thorn in the GOP-e ass. Screw you Boehner!
Bump that. Once again, the feckless Boehner plays Hans Blix to 0bama's Kim Jong Il ....
The dates are the dates, and the law is the law, he said.As a practical "rubber meets the road" matter, the law is what is enforced, not what is written. And enforcement has been and always will be selective.
Sort of like Andrew Jackson's remark, "John Marshall has made his decision; now let him enforce it!" When it comes to enforcement, Congress, like the courts, is impotent.
Actually , both Osamma and bonehead should be IMPEACHED !
The first one for OVERREACH of office and failure to support his oath to the Constitution .
The other for UNDERREACH and failure to preserve the power of his office , and dereliction of office .
Obamacare was never designed to succeed ; it was always designed to fail, 3 years a failure and still being modified ,furthermore ,
It is an ongoing classic criminal act of "BAIT AND SWITCH " with UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES !!
Congress didn't read the bill because they didn't have the time to read it !
I’m still trying to understand how I’m forced to pay for something that I DO NOT want.
“don’t want 0bamacare? no problem. just pay us for the privilege to not have it or go to jail.”
seriously... wtf?! what’s next? will they charge me for the privilege to not being shot? not having my car impounded? not having my free speech violated?
what a freakin joke
That is disturbing and creepy.
Ted Cruz was right!
