Did Joni Ernst Just Turn Herself into Christine O'Donnell?
The Iowa Republican ^ | March 26, 2014 | Craig Robinson

Posted on 03/27/2014 7:16:04 PM PDT by EveningStar

...The risk of the Ernst ad is that it may cause people not to take her seriously. While Iowa is one of the top agricultural states in America, 64 percent of residents live in urban communities. The question that deserves to be asked is, how does this ad play with urban women? From the ones I talked to on Tuesday, it didn't set very well.

"It reminds me a little of the 'I'm not a witch,' ad," one woman told TheIowaRepublican.com. "I think you could tell that story in a speech, but I would never use the word castrate in a television or radio ad. Plus, she seems just a little too happy about castrating pigs," the 35 year-old added. Another said that the ad created an image in her head about a mad woman roaming around Washington D.C. castrating legislators.

Those are two tough critiques of the ad, but one thing is abundantly clear – after pushing the fact that she is a mother, solider, and conservative for almost a year now, Ernst is now going to forever be linked to castration much in the same way Christine O'Donnell will forever be linked to her 2010 U.S. Senate ad that began with the words, "I'm not a witch." O'Donnell's "Witch" was also the first ad she run in the general election in 2010 in Delaware. The ad went viral. Some people loved it, others laughed, but the result was that people stopped taking her seriously...

So you also prefer Harry Reid for majority leader by purging all RINO’s? Is that really an intelligent strategy?

Some here are ready to attack conservatives even before the MSMdoes

Well Said Geron.

I wish those on the right would attack the Democrats as hard as they fight their own side.

Then we might actually make some headway.

Christine O Donnell was an excellent candidate.

Too many Christian pro life women are slurred and treated with seething contempt.

These women are having their civil rights violated and Republicans cheer.

Sarah Palin had her church burned with women and children inside— Rwanda style.

Even reading the comments here on FR is disappointing.

I genuinely appreciate the defense of Christian values by these women.

This is a stupid analysis by someone who doesn’t know what they are talking about.

It’s a great ad.

It may help her or hurt her, but there is no comparison between these 2 ads. O’Donnell ran that ad after the pig Bill Maher embarrassed her by playing old tapes of her appearences on “Politically Incorrect”. She was already on defense when she ran that ad. (And let’s not forget to thank Karl Rove too for putting her there. Thanks Turd Blossom!).

To my mind she handled it all wrong, it was a dreadful ad. If I were going to address that issue I would have gone all light hearted, used the theme song from Bewitched, etc.

BTW, does anyone remember the “demon sheep” ad? Who ran that, was it Carly Fiorina?

That ad made NO SENSE AT ALL.

Its a rare urban woman who would consider voting for someone who isn't a socialist to begin with.

Here is the backstory on the “I am not a witch “ ad.

Christine did not approve of that ad. She made it under the insistence of the GOP media consultant, I believe his name was Fred Davies.

Immediately after she made that ad, along with others that day, she told Fred not to run it, she did not feel right about it. Fred thought it was the best thing since sliced bread.

Fred, or someone close to him, then let the ad that night out to the media, without Christine’s permission.

Christine only had seven weeks after the primary to win the election. She received 40% of the vote, losing by only 25,000 votes. No GOP candidate for Senate has received more than 35% of the vote in 20 years in DE. Those votes were in New Castle County. And since those NCCo GOP-ers couldn’t have their precious Mike Castle, so they stayed home and let the seat stay with the Dems.

A betrayal by all levels of the GOP. The result was the entire GOP power structure in DE was canned, and replaced.

I think if Lugar and Castle were here they may have voted to confirm the cop killer lawyer. Lugar had a policy that he would vote for anyone no matter how liberal they are.

Donnelly and Coons voted no.

“Both Joni and Christine would be fine Senators.”

Maybe they would, but you need to be a fine politician before you get there.

I’m with you. I thought the add was very creative and hit on a subliminal level. The Dems will try to use Ernst’s words to demonize her, Alinsky style. However, the more they remind the voters of the nature of her words, the deeper the stake goes into the voter’s view of the pork spenders.

Yes, but it was a primary ad and she won the primary.

And a make no sense ad mostly costs money.

Then there is the horrible ad that costs money and the election which is what Pete Hoekstra did with his anti asian ad.

Analyzing the ad itself only....it's terrible and will not do the candidate any good.

I hope the good lady gets it off the air, gets herself a shovel and buries it under the barnyard manure heap as fast as humanly possible.

Given this item in her bio:

“I met my husband Gail while in Ames. After Gail retired as a Command Sergeant Major in the Army Rangers...”

One might also take into consideration her husband. Getting a Ranger Reg’t CSM irritated at you isn’t too smart either.
