California: By the way, that bullet train isn’t actually going to be as fast as we said it would be

When California first put the issue of building a high-speed bullet train between Los Angeles and San Francisco before voters, Gov. Jerry Brown made all sorts of nifty-sounding promises about how efficient, convenient, and fiscally sound a choice the rail line would be for Californians.

All of those promises have more or less turned out to be a sham by now, as the train’s costs have exploded and its deadlines pushed way back, and now it appears that that less-than-three-hour ride Californians were originally promised… well, probably isn’t.

...

who really considers a mounting “wall of debt” and a slew of unfunded pension liabilities a crisis?

The California Bullet Train And The Impervious Jerry Brown

More than half of Californians oppose an expensive rail project supported by Gov. Jerry Brown that would take riders between Los Angeles and San Francisco in less than three hours. That doesn’t seem to bother Brown — and it doesn’t seem to be hurting him either.

10k doesn’t buy much of a car these days. But a boondoggle bullet train will funnel lots and lots of taxpayer money to unions, and lots of that money will end up in the democrats campaign coffers. That’s really all this whole thing is all about.

Ding, ding, ding - we have a thread winnah!!!

Yeah, good luck with those speeds.

It's been discussed before, but in order to get up to 100 mph, you need time, and you can't slow down to 20 mph every 30 miles to safely pass through small towns.

First, because it's not legal, second, because it's not safe, third, unless you want to get off in these small towns, it's completely worthless.

A bullet train from LA to Vegas makes sense.

And I could actually see it making a profit.

To Gov. Moonbeam: RE-THINK this!

You can pay your union goon masters their tribute and actually create something of value.

Seriously. How many old fogeys take buses to Atlantic City out of Philadelphia? Lotsa.

Now imagine selling the fogeys on a train that will get you to Vegas in a couple of hours.

And get you home in a reasonable time.

Win-win.

And I'll bet the Vegas casinos would chip in for some of the costs.

Anyone that’s driven the 15 on Friday night to Vegas or Sunday night back to LA knows there’s money in a bullet train back and forth.

Two lines to Barstow. One from Burbank one from Ontario..

One line from Barstow to Vegas.

Gambling on the train

Gov should go to Nevada and meet with Vegas mayor, nv governor and hotel owners. $5 per day room tax.

No public funds except right of way planning and environmental report.

They converted a bunch of railroad tracks in my area into "rail trails". I take my dog walking there. Don't have to worry about getting hit by a car though sometimes those bicyclists can get pretty close. Jogging moms pushing baby carriages in front of them present a minor hazard as well. Other than that, a very pleasurable walk in most any kind of weather.

What’s a 3hr10min trip between LA and SF, in terms of average mph?

The math will be a bit fuzzy; because there is some time spent doing enjoyable things in a TERMINAL at each end of the trip.

"Nothing but an enormous land-grab scam."

This is the only thing that makes sense. Combined with EPA minnow-gate - shutting down farming, it adds up to a land-grab of farms by connected developers.

Niiice! But at least if you go SOUTH, you can make stops in Mexico and provide humane transportation to thousands of temporary Mexican workers.

The bullit train is only a mechanism to launder money. It doesn’t have to work as promised.

And a hell of a lot of that federal money is headed into Chicago...

How about a bullet train to Tijuana so we can ‘send back them’ faster?

If someone were to research who owns title or options on the land that will be purchased for this boondoggle the purpose of this project will become clear.
