Actually my German mother told me stories of the Communists and the Nazis shooting it out in the streets of pre-war Frankfurt.
A lot of the Nazi street brawlers started out as Communist street brawlers, but the Nazis had better beer.

When the Germans troops occupied Ukraine they were perceived as liberators. During the War World II hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian flee from the Soviet enslavement towards the West taking advantage of the chaos. At the end of the War the Allies, bending to Stalin’s demand, Ukrainians living in liberated Europe were shamefully deported back to the Soviet Union. Many preferred to commit suicide over returning back to Stalin’s communist inferno.
This photograph shows the Solovky Monastery as it stands today. But it was one of the first of the Gulags and many Ukrainians were sent there. Its location is near Archangel and it is very close to the Arctic Circle. As it is on an island it was a perfect location for a Gulag. There were too many people sent there so many stayed/died in the woods far from the monastery.
There was an FR thread earlier today that mentioned WikiLeaks contained info that Russia is behind not only the Ukrainian but other nationalist European far right groups.
The Soviets & the Nazis collaborated until they finally ended up going to war against each other. The Soviets even returned some Jews that had fled Germany, knowing what was about to happen.
This article is just another attempt to tar Republicans. Did GHW Bush really know the beliefs of that group? Did Reagan? Not likely. They’d been allowed into the country & they would’ve assumed they’d been vetted as far as any Nazi past. This is just like using red to signify the Republican Party, when it’s a color far more appropriate to the Democrat Party today.
It would not surprised me that Russia infiltrated far right groups in Europe.But if this is true, then Russia has an upper hand in NATO clandestine operation because NATO uses the very same far right groups.
And more bull gays. Nazism is Communism for Homosexuals. Ernst Rohm was Hitler's biggest ally in the early days, and his biggest rival after taking power in 1933. Rohm was a major butch homosexual, homosexual German war vets gravitated to the Brown Shirts. They were anti-Semitic because of the Jews' admonitions against abominable sexual practices. Rohm called Hitler "du", an affectionate term one friend has for another.
Hitler had Rohm whacked because he loved power more than gay love, and he knew that he had to eliminate the Brown Shirts if he could get the loyalty of the Army.
This was 80 years ago. The same is going on in Ukraine as we speak, the night of long knives is being re-enacted. Ruling Nazis are killing off their competition from the Maidan movement.
DTA - You know where the monkey sleeps. What is desperately needed on FR and among Republicans is an ability to step outside the blinders of ideology and simply let the facts speak for themselves. Stalin a butcher, yep. Hitler a butcher, yep. But the question always remains, how do we see behind the camouflage, the false flags, the hidden agendas, the superficial text book versions of history and discover how factions are manufactured, groomed and deployed clandestinely against the forces of truth and beauty?
Too many of us on FR refuse to examine the deep ambivalences of history and prefer to go knee jerk rather than hypothetical. We need to understand the science of geopolitics, the science of spy craft and the science of deception in order to know how political motivations are generated and manipulated. We have a stupid predisposition to accuse others of puppetry while refusing to examine the strings attached to our limbs.
We simply have to get smarter faster. If you think you are smart enough, you are a fool.
The Soviets tried to stop the Nazis from 1933-39. France and Britain tried to steer Hitler East. Until August 1939, the Soviets tried to forge an alliance with Poland, UK and Britain against Hitler. Poland said no.
Too many supported the wars of choice that have bankrupted our nation, produced tens of thousands of maimed boys, and 22 suicides a day (including vets who are fathers driving their cars into telephone poles, who I know of personally).
Ernst Rohm’s downfall was due to Himmler and Goring plotting against him and trying to convince Hitler that Rohm was disloyal and planning a coup. He was a homosexual but that was not widely known in Germany at the time. Rohm’s brownshirts were considered a threat by the Army due mainly to their sheer numbers approaching three million.
According to John Toland’s biography Hitler himself had no homosexual proclivities.

When terrified Cambodians were fleeing to Thailand with tales of mass murder by the Khmer Rouge, the Nation ran stories saying their eye witness testimonials were nothing more than CIA Propaganda. Ditto with Stalin mass murder in the in the 30s.
