Chicago police are reporting that the murder rate for the first quarter of the year is the lowest its been in more than 50 years, which gun advocates are attributing to a concealed carry law passed in Illinois last year.
The first three months of 2014 have seen the fewest number of homicides since 1958 six fewer than this time in 2013, and 55 fewer than this time in 2012, The Chicago Sun-Times reported.
Gun-rights advocates argue that concealed carry laws can reduce crime and keep the population safer. The state began accepting applications for permits in January.

Of course the ComDems will try to spin this away.
Wonder how the gun ban characters’ll try to spin this....
Bump
Some conservatives are former liberals who got mugged by life!!!
The article quoted them as saying it was because of police work and confiscation of 1300 illegal guns during that time.
All ComDems lie. They know better, but they must not admit their failures.
Thanks.
Good quote.
So... the police weren’t working for the past twenty years?
The liberal mindset is daft.
Agree.
But they will never admit failure. They must lie to get elected and stay in power.
Read some of the comments: “ghetto rat Democrats”, “lefty idiots”, “Obama a** kissers”.
We FRiends appear moderate in comparison. It supports my position that we’re closer to the middle than the “progressives.”
Like “climate change” they changed from “liberals” when the term took on a pejorative tone.
Chicago was safer than Indianapolis for the first time in 50 years. Yeah Rahm, it’s gotta be your policing and gun confiscation.
“An armed society is a polite society.”
I speak from personal experience.
I have a family acquaintance that's imposing, shallow, and just generally a huge PITA. That's the consensus of family and friends. The behavior, emotional games, and the deliberate manipulation of others is outrageous. This person really doesn't understand what's wrong. For health reasons (hypertension) some have cut off contact with this person. For myself I've tried to be nice, but the level of selfishness in this person and the size of the ego creates a barrier to any subtle hints or criticism, so finally I decided to be blunt and brutally honest. This person was very upset, but denied having any fault.
Afterword I recalled that this person has firearm. I quickly changed my approach and moved towards some sort of reconciliation, deciding to simply try to tolerate all the headaches and stress.
It's not that there is obvious evidence that this person is unstable. If that were the case the gun might be confiscated on the grounds of mental illness. It's more complicated than that. This person probably won't do anything rash, but the loss of my life is very serious to me so any chance that they might behave rashly must be taken seriously. I really wish the games would stop, but fearing for my life means I'm going to have to go back to simply indulging this person.
What I'm saying in the context of the new CC law is that the reduction in homicides might be occurring because people now seriously consider the possibility of being shot by someone they've had a conflict with. When CC was illegal, the idea that someone might have a gun wasn't often considered in a conflict. Now that CC is legal, everyone is much more likely aware of the feelings and sensitivities of the person they're addressing or otherwise dealing with and this is heading off conflicts that might otherwise occur.
I am currently an applicant for the Illinois concealed permit. I am super pro-gun, but the pro-gunners saying the drop is because of the new law are full of crap. The drop in crime is because of the super cold winter we had. Too cold for street gang members to hunt each other down. No concealed carry permits were issued until just 2-3 weeks ago. It will take a couple of years to see how much effect the gun-carry law will have.
What do you think of the legal environment in Chicago? Do you feel that if you’re in a defensive shooting that kills the perp you won’t be persecuted/prosecuted by Anita Alvarez?
It seems to me that until there are a series of test cases establishing a safe harbor for defensive gun use in Illinois, specifically Chicago, concealed carry in Illinois comes with a minimum $25K price tag if you’re serious about defending yourself.
I have no doubt that the first 3-4 uses of self defense concealed carry will be painted as “Racist-wild west actions” by Crook County authorities and the media. We will just have to weather the storm.
Look around the country. Whenever a state repeals onerous gun restrictions there is usually an immediate reduction in shootings. Not necessarily a reduction in all violence, but sometimes that, too. Where do you think Heinlein got “an armed society is a polite society?”
TC
funny deal,
Less crime, fewer killings, hardly any knock out “games” in right to carry states.
Cause you’ll get shot.
and hopefully killed.
Chicago has just experienced the coldest four months on record!
I agree with you. (But "global cooling" as the reason should be at least as upsetting to liberals as CCW, since it punctures another one of their most important myths!)
Maybe they should “spin” it. I have a feeling the bitter cold winter had something to do with it.
I’m a little curious. What relationship do you have with this person that makes it imperative that you be around him? Also, has it not occurred to you to arm yourself, just in case? You should be armed, anyway.
Already started. The murder rate dropped because of all the mayor's new outreach programs. Besides, it's been cold and the misunderstood youth have all been keeping indoors don't you know. Blah, blah, blah...
First permits issued 2-3 weeks ago....so in theory ANYONE might now be armed. That would make me more polite.
Was it Dirty Harry who asked. “are you feeling lucky ?”
