He also served his country in WW2. RIP Mickey Rooney, you will be missed.

In 1944, Rooney enlisted in the United States Army. He served more than 21 months, until shortly after the end of World War II. During and after the war he helped entertain the troops in America and Europe, and spent part of the time as a radio personality on the American Forces Network and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for entertaining troops in combat zones. In addition to the Bronze Star Medal, Rooney also received the Army Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, and World War II Victory Medal for his military service.

I too could not believe what I saw when I read about Mickey’s death! Al though he was 93 he was forever young for me. I have lost a large hero and also big part of my life’s memories. I don’t know why his death is so hard for me to wrap my mind around? May God receive Mickey with open and loving arms.

A classic icon for the legitimate theater is the clown and frown masques superimposed or side-by-side.

Mr Rooney's acting range covered them both very well but right now I am feeling the sadness more. I am sure that his friends and costars are welcoming him to that eternal stage where all performances are a success.

I was about to post the same thing. “I know! Let’s put on a show!”

Norman Lear wanted him to play “Archie Bunker”. Rooney said he told Lear the critics would kill him.

Yep. He made me cry in “Boys Town”. He was also great in “Young Mr. Edison.” But the Andy Hardy movies were a riot.

The kids today don’t know what a real “star” is.

Naked City - Ooftus Gooftus

George Bick is a 40 year old who never grew up. Fed up with his anonymous life and his henpecking wife, he decides to make the world notice him. He becomes the prankster known as "Ooftus Doofus"

I watched a bunch of these on MeTV in the last few years, but I didn't see this one.

I mostly think of him as Puck in the 1935 film by Max Reinhardt, A Midsummer Night's Dream. It was a big deal in its day, and everything about it is great, as I see it. Many claim that the actors, particularly Mickey Rooney, were not up to the task, but I disagree. This movie is a unique experience.

I’m going to head to utube at some point to watch some of his old movies again. A great actor, a great personality, one of the last of the golden age of Hollywood.

God bless Mickey Rooney. From vaudeville, to the silver screen, from National Velvet to The Black Stallion to Bill, his acting talent never faded. Rest in Peace, Joe Yule, we loved you well.

Dingy Bell.

A great actor, a great comedian, fine singer and dancer. Saw him several times in Sugar Babies on Broadway.

The Mick was not in great health in these last years. I think there was a senility problem. He refused to sign an autograph for a friend of mine at one of those conventions where the whole purpose is signing autographs.

So, I think he’s moved on to a better place. Just think how many movies you can now re-review on Netflix or You Tube. I’m already compiling a list!

I had a really amazing experience meeting him a number of years back. I was at a book signing. At the Air & Space Museum's Dulles facility. For the last three, at the time, remaining members of the Enola Gay/Hiroshima crew (Gen Tibbets, Dutch Van Kirk and Morris Jeppson).

Then Mickey Rooney shows up. I don't think it was planned at all, he was just in town by coincidence and wanted to see the museum on the same day of the book signing. He got out of the golf cart he was being taken around in, hung around and joked with the Enola Gay guys for about 10 minutes. Very neat, but also very surreal.
