As Benghazi falls, so goes Libya
Magharebia (Libya) ^ | April 4, 2014 | By Ali Al-Gattani

Libya's General National Congress (GNC) on Sunday (March 30th) agreed to replace the legislative body with a new House of Representatives. As the country prepares for its next try at governance, Magharebia visited Susa to ask activist and former thwar Adel Elhasy about the interplay between politics and security.

Unless things change across the board, the former field commander of the Free Libyans Brigade sees a grim future for his country.

Adel Elhasy: The security situation is deteriorating - seriously. There are no recognised or active institutions. There is no army, just military units under various military ranks that are disorganised and lacking equipment and efficiency. The police force and other security institutions, such as investigative units, are just people working without achieving results.

Derna is entirely hijacked and the state cannot show up there, while the local council cannot exercise its security duties, let alone resolve murders that take place on a daily basis…

Benghazi saw the assassination of nearly 300 people after the liberation. Oil fields are occupied with attempts of custody, while the Amazigh are blockading oil pipelines and causing the closure of water pipes in the south. Magharebia: Tell us more about security. What's behind the chaos?

OBAMA: "You have seen with great clarity that Gaddafi has lost legitimacy with his people. So let me just be very unambiguous about this. Colonel Qaddafi needs to step down from power and leave. That is good for his country. It is good for his people. It's the right thing to do.”

Hillary’s accomplishments:

1. Lost $6 BILLION at Department of State. Where did it go? She has no idea.

2. Lost Libya to America-hating goons, lost a ton of MANPADS to friends of those goons. Could be 400 of them if we’re super lucky, but could be more like 20,000 of them. Again, who knows...?

This is one of the President’s (and Secretary Clinton’s) greatest foreign policy achievements. Remember he proclaimed, “After four decades of darkness, they (the Libyan people) can walk the streets, free from a tyrant.” Fouad Ajami, a senior fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institute and an “expert” in these matters, wrote in the Wall Street Journal, “Who, today, does not thrill to the spectacle of freedom in Tripoli.” The place is being run by John McCain’s heroes. So try not to be so critical. Next you’ll be saying the Obama bowed to the king of Saudi Arabia.

[Did Libya ever attack NATO???]

For many years Libya, and particularly the Port of Benghazi, served as a gateway for smuggling illegal migrants from Africa into Europe. The Europeans made official complaints for years. Qaddafi, in his tilt toward the West, finally began cracking down on this racket in 2010. This upset businessmen in eastern Libya who incited the insurrection. This group also cut a deal with BP, offering to sell them oil cheaper than the rate under Qaddafi if BP could talk the Brits and NATO into toppling Qaddafi. BP, who is joined at the hip with Obama, also helped persuade the White House to join the fracas.

Since the demise of the Qaddafi family the power vacuum has been filled by gangs of thugs. Which may be why the U.S. press barely covers Libya anymore.

According to the creation of NATO during the cold war, its mission ONLY a defense mechanism, if one member country were being attacked by a non-member country. It was never to be used as an attack force, NEVER!!!
