Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said she would rather pass amnesty legislation than get her gavel back.
“It’s the biggest thing that we can do, and that’s why I’ve said to the speaker, to the press, to these groups, I would rather pass [a] comprehensive immigration reform bill than win the elections in November,” Pelosi told Politico. “There’s nothing we could accomplish in winning that would be as big as passing immigration reform.”
Politico noted that Pelosi has been traveling the country promoting immigration reform legislation and said she hoped a bill could pass by June or July. She ruled out the possibility of amnesty legislation being passed during the lame-duck session of Congress after the midterm elections.
Democrats have circulated a discharge petition for their bill, which is the Senate's bill that the Congressional Budget Office determined would lower the wages of American workers with less stringent border security provisions, but it has failed to get the 218 signatures needed to force a vote.
Other Democrats like Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) have indicated that this year was the last chance to pass broad amnesty legislation.

I'd rather charge, prosecute and jail those elected and appointed officials who purposefully didn't enforce current immigration law, who purposefully refused to enforce our borders as required by the US Constitution, and who conspired with or encouraged others to do the same, as with the many "sanctuary cities" and the federal programs to grant housing loans to illegal aliens and the wide variety of social and educational programs.
Many of these elected and appointed officials and their programs put illegals ahead of the tax paying citizens who pay their salaries and pay for these programs only to then have to compete for jobs and the benefits they're paying for with those who shouldn't even be here!
This isn't compassion, it's criminal insanity!
Charge, prosecute and jail those of US who are tearing US apart from the inside and enforce our border first, then clean up whatever mess they've left behind.

The word “Amnesty” is just in the headline. No politician R or D dares utter the word directly.

Exactly. It is unusual to see those words in print but you never hear insects like Pelosi or McCain use the ‘A’ word.
If Miss Lube Rack and her partners in crime were ever to succeed (like Obamacare: “It’s affordable, it’s private!”) they would make it clear that “reform” is in fact what we have been saying it is all along: amnesty. (Surprise surprise.)
We would hear nothing more about fines and the other things newly minted citizens were expected to do as conditions of passing “comprehensive. immigration reform” or they would be given short shrift, unenforced as rules usually don’t apply to Democrats.
As you point out, we don’t hear them using the actual word, that is, what it really is—a pardon and reward of citizenship. The siren song is, ‘The system is broken. We need CIR. Reform, reform, reform ...’ droning on-and-on. All they want is amnesty. Period.
