Tunes For The Troops

**Artist Showcase**
Avenged Sevenfold (sometimes abbreviated as A7X) are an American rock band from Huntington Beach, California, formed in 1999. The band's members are lead vocalist M. Shadows, rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist Zacky Vengeance, lead guitarist and backing vocalist Synyster Gates, bass guitarist Johnny Christ and drummer Arin Ilejay.

They are known for their diverse rock sound and dramatic imagery in album covers and t-shirts. Avenged Sevenfold emerged with a metalcore sound on their debut Sounding the Seventh Trumpet but their style had evolved by their third album and first major label release, City of Evil, into a hard rock/heavy metal sound. The band continued to explore new sounds with their self-titled release and enjoyed continued mainstream success before their drummer, James "The Rev" Sullivan, died in 2009. Despite his death, the band continued on with help of now-former Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy and released and toured in support of their fifth album Nightmare in 2010 which debuted on the top spot of the Billboard 200, their first number one debut. Their latest record Hail to the King released in 2013 marks the album debut of new drummer Arin Ilejay. Hail to the King charted as #1 on the US Billboard 200, the UK albums chart, as well as the Finnish, Brazilian, Canadian, and Irish charts.

To date, Avenged Sevenfold has released six studio albums, one live album/compilation/DVD, and eighteen singles and sold more than 8 million albums worldwide

All music is removed on Monday.
Thanks to all the DeeJay's for their time & effort providing entertainment for the Troops!

#5 – The Carpenters: “For All We Know”

This song was from “Lovers and Other Strangers”, which brought Bea Arthur to attention before “Maude”.

A UNIQUE SOUND – Michelangelo: “One Voice Many”

Columbia Records didn’t know how to market this group. How many bands do you know where the autoharp is the dominant instrument? A&R (artists and repertoire) signed them, and Columbia’s promotion department didn’t know how to promote them. Add to this the fact that the promotional release single had the labels reversed, so that the two songs were mislabeled. The effort was doomed from the beginning, and it was a shame because these folks had a unique sound that deserved attention. Fortunately, it developed enough of a cult following that the album has been recently released on CD.

”Half a Tap” was the B-side of the first release, but it was mislabeled as “300 Watt Music Box”, which created no end of confusion. It’s a waltz for autoharp, and it’s absolutely haunting. I love the way they go from a quick three-to-the-bar waltz to a slower three-to-the-bar minuet tempo in the middle.

Michelangelo: “Half a Tap”

This was supposed to be the A-side of the first release, and it’s catchy enough.

Michelangelo: “300 Watt Music Box”

This cut from the album “One Voice Many” features the autoharp player singing, and she has a fine voice. This band was versatile, and it’s a great little song.

Michelangelo: “It’s Crying Outside”

I am indeed proud of my baby boy, and I am so glad boot camp is over for him. I have him for ten days, then he is off to someplace for more training. I drove a rented VW Jetta three hours to pick him up, he drove back, and we talked and talked and talked. That Jetta is the worst car I have ever driven, so we traded it in and got a pure white Challenger! He has been out all day visiting friends. Tomorrow he is taking me to church (his idea) and brunch. Today I did seven loads of laundry, mostly uniforms.
