He might be able to pronounce it just fine but not when he’s looking at it. I’ve got a few words like that, something about the spelling make my mouth say “that can’t be how that’s pronounced”. “Mignon” is like that, I love filet mignon but if I order it I have to make sure to not look at the menu seeing the word confuses me, could say it all day without looking at it, just don’t look at it. And that’s without a bunch of TV camera looking at me and thousands of dollars on the line.

The others got clobbered by the wheel. His only “something right” was that he got to go again after the wheel clobbered ... sort of like being the next fence post.

I was directing my post to the person that said he got screwed. He didn’t, and he screwed up 3 times to the tune of 72k.

That and a shot at million bucks in the bonus round. I liked the irony of the girl next to him just smiling and cashing in, all the while wearing that Texas A&M sweatshirt.

Sucks to be stupid. Now he has clearly demonstrated to the world how he got into college.

My wife is a former winner - 27 years ago. She really wishes she could go back on, she’s a LOT better now, and she was darn good then.

>>Or, for that matter, North Versailles Township.

How is that pronounced? If you’re talking Versailles, KY, the local pronunciation is ver-SAILS.

Obviously, he had never heard the name pronounced before. Ignorance is not stupidity, but it can be amusing.

I don't watch the show and don't have any sense of the flexibility on pronunciation, but offing a kid on a mispronunciation strikes me as cheesy.

Yes, I'm ok on Achilles and "all them dead Greeks," but I could easily butcher a French or Spanish name, let alone an African or Asian one. There are a lot of words/names I know by sight but might mispronounce. "Beyonce," for example, or "Eminem," which I always want to pronounce as "enema." Some of the names out there now are pretty outlandish.

This brings us back to Cultural Literacy 101. Kids aren't going to know what they aren't taught, and the canon ain't what it used to be.

Since Western Pennsylvania may as well be Kentucky, in many ways, it too is pronounced ver-SAILS. I've been long gone from my birthplace, but when I get back to Pittsburgh on occasion, it reminds me much more of a bigger Kingsport, TN than it does of Philadelphia. And that goes for the speech patterns, which are heavily influenced by the Appalachian dialect.

That is easy. In KY we say Ver-sails. Everybody knows that. If you want a hard one try Louisville. Louie-ville. Looaville. And many others.

I saw this the other night and I think he got cheated.

I'm assuming you forgot the "/s" after your comment.

>>Sucks to be stupid. Now he has clearly demonstrated to the world how he got into college.<<

That is unfair. He seemed bright, just uneducated.

He did indeed demonstrate to the world how Affirmative Action hurts the recipient as much as the institution and society.

I 100% guarantee I will not have a Black nor Hispanic doctor or lawyer. I will choose an ex-pat, who I know had to COMPETE for entry and passage, first.

That isn’t racism, it is recognizing the harm AFA does.
