Posted on 04/16/2014 12:00:15 AM PDT by Pinkbell
At long last, it appears that Rush Limbaugh has run out of steam.
I have to acknowledge that I have sensed Rush getting by on fumes for some time now (yes, I tune into his show from time to time to enjoy his broadcasting skills if not his message). However, it was only recently that the world of Limbaugh crossed that thin red line from partially serious to total self-parody and audience deceptiona line crossed from which there is often no return.
It happened on the occasion of Stephen Colberts appointment to fill David Lettermans soon to be vacated chair on the CBS late-night set.
By using this occasion to create a political narrative designed to stir up his listeners, Limbaugh telegraphed to his loyal followers that he is now dependent upon feeding fully faux political nonsense that his audience instinctivelyor explicitlyknows is a bunch of baloney.
To be sure, this is hardly the first time Limbaugh has fed his audience a diet of twisted information and bizarre, conspiratorial memes. However, it may well be the first time that he attempted to shove a diet down the throats of any semi-rational listeners still living in the real world made up of nonsense that even his most loyal listener could not possibly swallow.
Thats a problem for Rush.
A show like Limbaughs is wholly reliant on his listeners willingness to believeor suspend beliefno matter how out there their gurus arguments may be. While it is one thing for me to sneer at much of what Limbaugh may present, it is quite another when he attempts to sell his loyal audience on stuff they already know, through personal experience, to be false and fraudulent hokum.
Upon hearing the news of Colberts new gig, Limbaugh pronounced as only Limbaugh can pronounce

What should one expect from Forbes’ “token lefty”substance?
I’ll point out the obvious here....the whole gimmick of Colbert is his “I’m-an-idiot-Republican” act. That’s what people tune into and watch for thrills. So, CBS puts out the message last week....he won’t be doing his ‘Republican’ act.
What do you think happens when folks tune in on his arrival? Some dull guy with limited interview skills, and virtually no humor without his Republican act. He loses a quarter of his audience by the sixth week, and CBS admits problems by the sixth month. It’s a five year contract and I doubt if they realize the limited capability of this guy without his signature acting piece.
I hardly listen to Rush anymore, but it’s because I don’t feel I’m learning anything. In 1988, Rush was reading the news from all over, and it was impossible for most listeners to get most of it anywhere else. Rush has been overtaken by the internet. For many years, anyone who followed FR and some other websites would learn little or nothing by listening to Rush.
And Rush, Levin, Hannity, and most other radio hosts refuse to deal with what everyone in Washington knows: that Obama/Soetoro is almost certainly an illegal alien. And that his “birth certificate” is absolutely certainly a crude forgery.
They all offer the excuse: “We will never get him out of office with that stuff.”
How about this?-—Broadcast the truth, and the evidence, and let the chips fall where they may.
There are some “conservative” radio hosts who are themselves part of the dinosaur media, and are being overtaken by others for the same reason that the Washington Compost and the New York Slimes are dying.
I think you’ve pretty much nailed it. Colbert is a one trick shtick. Unless he’s been holding back some major talent (which I somehow doubt), he’s not likely to fare all that well in the late night wars.
Then again, Craig Kilborn lasted almost five years on the air, and I remain mystified about that one...
they wish rush’s show was over.
everytime they say this, rush is doing just fine. with his new books he’s hitting a whole new younger audience with true american history you cant find in most public schools.
Who the hell is Rick Ungar? never heard of him,
Rush has been on the air over half my life. I have heard “the end of Limbaugh” stories every election cycle like clockwork.
If I were Fox News....I’d quietly sit there...until the week that Colbert is about to start up, and announce we’ve got Jay Leno...starting this week....lining up forty big names for interviews, and have Jay’s garage as the back-drop for the entire show. Colbert drops ten points just on the announcement.
Michael Alan Weiner, is that you? :-)
“Who the hell is Rick Ungar? never heard of him,”
He’s the Liberal prick on FBN! Sometimes shows up on the “Hannity Panels” He’s the “ white version” of Gemoooo Greene!
Sans the Bill O Reilly schtick all that’s left of Colbert is Mr Goodwrench.
If you don’t remember his being Mre Goodwrench then you will be just as impressed with his real persona.
The RINOs want him gone more than the LIBs.
Re: “Rush has been on the air over half my life. I have heard the end of Limbaugh stories every election cycle like clockwork.”
Exactly. My same experience as well. The libs’s dream is that Rush just goes away.
Weiner doesn’t cover nearly enough ground.
The worst of the worst is Ferguson. He follows the lame formula of: Here’s an event in the news. Here’s what I think about it. Now I want to hear from callers. Next hour: same issue.
Rick Ungar should feel a bit embarrassed to be so excited about this.
Everyone knows CBS doesn’t make decisions based on ratings.
Re: “The RINOs want him gone more than the LIBs.”
Very true, too.
I have no doubt that Rush will retire on his own terms. Had he retired 10 years ago he still would have been a huge media success story.
I don’t like Colbert and never watch his show. Never watched Letterman either.

I think a lot of people feel the same. Claims of being just one of those fringe “Birthers” has shut up people on the subject, as was the intention of the left, and that is cowardice on the part of the right IMHO. The evidence is not easily discounted without the stigma from the propaganda experts on the left.
Yes; I think you get it. Rush’s new books are his new passion. - I look forward to reading them.
Most on the right - the true conservatives - believe that zero isn’t an American citizen. However, we really don’t have the proof - nothing that would hold up in a court of law. And, yet, some of you on here want Rush, Hannity and Levin to commit radio suicide by becoming a birther. Donald Trump can get away with it - he doesn’t have a radio program or bosses to answer to. For pete’s sake, why don’t some of you think more clearly about things like this? If those 3 go off the air we’d have no way carrying the truth to the masses. I also don’t believe we could have gotten zero out of office - that ship has sailed. One day the truth will come out, but I sure don’t expect it while he’s still squatting in the WH.
I have seen Rush declared “finished” by the left more than ten times in my adult life.
I wonder if Leno ends up on “Velocity?”
True. But it's always interesting to get the Rushbo take on events ... at least the ones he chooses not to ignore.
“I hardly listen to Rush anymore”
That is quite obvious by the reading the rest of your post. Many here on FR are of the same stripe as you. He’s conservative, but not “your” kind of conservative.... You might learn something by listening to Limbaugh, instead of thinking you know everything.
Well, this is good news.
The end of Rush = increase in ratings.
When 12:00 comes around at work, I know I can turn on the radio and listen to 3 hours of sense in an otherwise crazy world.
Thank you for that comment.
It's as if Johnny Carson had tried to host the Tonight Show as "Art Fern," or "Karnak" or any of his other characters, and no one ever met what he disclosed of his real persona.
Plus, this guy is obviously offended by Rush and Conservative politics, and spends half his column apologizing for it.
This is liberal screed disguised as "gotcha."
Even Beck, who has had more courage than any of them, can’t really handle the Bundy situation. Imploring folks to non violence is probably the wrong answer with this enemy. The FCC would throw the switch on them in a heartbeat if they really dealt with this on air, hence time wasted with Colbert. Up next, flag burning, gay “marriage”, global warming, anything but “give me Liberty or give me Death”.
When Rush goes AM radio dies.
What is this...about the 1000th lib article declaring Rush is dead/through? Wishful thinking from another deluded lib. I suppose Ungar, like all libs, believes conservatives agree with each and every statement by Rush. I do however agree with about 90-95% of what Rush says. He’s right that there is liberal war against conservative America. They picked Colbert to succeed Letterman...not Dennis Miller or some other conservative. They can choose whomever they want....I’m not going to watch.

It’s a bit of a mystery to me why the networks deliberately ignore the adult audience. When, as a teen, I first started watching Carson, I didn’t expect him to cater to the youth audience. I watched him trying to see how adults operated.
When Rush goes AM, radio dies...or, When Rush goes, AM radio dies.
Rush has had more obituaries written about him than my neighbor’s cat. Might as well trash this one too.
There possibly may be some philosophical or other reason to think Rush is “on the way out”. But the traditional ratings organizations don’t think so.
Like the cat in the movie “Mad House”.
[One of my all time favorite comedies - hilarious]
I was a religious listener of Rush’s for over 15 years. Then we got a faster internet and I was able to download Mark Levin’s podcasts. Have listened to every podcast for over 4 years, except the guest host ones. I knew about Mark from Rush’s old tv show and FoxNews. Now I can’t bear to listen to Rush for more than a few minutes. If I happen to be in the car I’ll see what he is talking about. The situation is so dire in this country that I need substance, and education. Mark has it all and humor too. Have read all his books and anxiously await the next. Rush is a great guy but more of an entertainer these days. He has such a huge audience I wish he would follow Mark’s lead.
The world might be a little different that when we were 18 watching Carson.
Free Republic killed talk radio for me. Back in the 1980s and 1990s, I listened to talk radio constantly as it was my only source for "non-lamestream" media news.
Now I'm much better informed than just about any talk show host. In fact, it appears that many talk show hosts get their material and talking points right here on Free Republic.
The writer wrote his own epitaph..... he knows not of what he speaks. He is merely a rider on the band wagon
Rush survived a drug addiction which left him hard of hearing, the NFL flap and numerious other things and each time the left had the grave dug.
Long Live Rush
I used to wonder about this since the older demographic has more money to spend on advertisers products. But then I realized that they are thinking long term—if buying habits, brand loyalty and do forth are established when a consumer is young, they will still have them when they’re old and presumably with more money.
I’ve listened to Rush since 1992. I quit listening to him about a year ago.
I usually spend about 45 minutes every morning reading news from FR, Weasel Zippers, Breitbart, NewsBusters, The Blaze, etc.
I find that I am normally 24-48 hours ahead of Rush on any given issue. Then when he says something about any issue, I already know what he thinks about it because I’ve heard it all for 22 years. Combined with him pushing his overpriced, gimmicky tea and his goofy kids’ book and golf stories and refusal to use his pulpit to actually change anything, I get nothing of value from listening to him any more.
Sorry, Rush. It was fun while it lasted. I have moved on.
I’m convinced that they do.
He’s been on Hannity. Pretty effective leftist mouthpiece. Too many lies to bat them all down.
I have been done with Rush Limbaugh for a long, long time, because he is a scoffer and scorner, profiting on inflating and rolling in others' errors. After listening to his radio fare a few times, I made sure I never read his books or his comments that have been posted here verbatim.
The Spirit's Holy Scripture has convinced me that God cannot bless one who makes Limbaugh's ungodly radio fare a daily lust. Why?
Psa 1:1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
Prov. 1:22 How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?
Prov. 3:34 Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly. (Here "he" is Jehovah G0d; see Ps. 2:1-4)
Prov. 19:29 Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.
Prov. 9:7 He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot.
Prov. 9:8 Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.
Prov. 13:1 A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.
Prov. 14:6 A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth.
Prov. 15:12 A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will he go unto the wise.
Prov. 19:25 Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge.
Prov. 21:11 When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise: and when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge.
Prov. 21:24 Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who dealeth in proud wrath.
Prov. 22:10 Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease.
Prov. 24:9 The thought of foolishness is sin: and the scorner is an abomination to men.
Hab 1:9-10 They** shall come all for violence: their faces shall sup up as the east wind, and they shall gather the captivity as the sand. And they shall scoff at the kings, and the princes shall be a scorn unto them: they shall deride every strong hold; for they shall heap dust, and take it. (** "they" are the Chaldeans=Babylonians whom God allowed to enslave and deport the Judeans for a generation for their idolatry.)
Jud 1:8 Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignit(ar)ies.
I believe God will punish us just as much for listening to commentators like Limbaugh as He will for our bowing to the objects of Liombaugh's ruthless mockery.
Rush pretends to be moral, but he is merely a profiteer of moralism, not as a Christian. Those who swill his stirred-up fecal matter are just as stupid as the liberals that create it, IMHO.
And as I expect, because of saying this, his worshippers will now throw a lot of that fecal matter my way also, won't they?
Don't expect me to respond.
Sounds like he’s hoping his little opinion gets some air time.
I hope Rush ignores this person and advises his screeners not to let this topic through.
