Washington Times ^ | April 16, 2014 | Stephen Dinan

A Republican congressman has introduced a bill that would stop government paychecks for officials who have been found in contempt of Congress — a move that seems designed in the short term to go after Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr.

Mr. Holder has refused to cooperate with House Republicans’ probe into the Fast & Furious gun-walking operation, and the House has voted to find him in contempt. Mr. Holder is challenging that vote in court.

“Ex post facto. Won’t stand up in court.”

No, it isn’t going after what he was already paid, just future payments.

Yeah, right! Who is the GOP kidding. King Obama will just raise his salary and give him a bonus for service to his communists empire. Without the Senate nothing can be accomplished.

No, it isn’t going after what he was already paid, just future payments.

When Holder was found in contempt it was legal for him to continue to be paid. Now thay want to retroactively impose a punishment on him for past actions. I think that would fall under the ex post facto restrictions. I think that all they can do is pass a law sanctioning any future cabinet member found in contempt and stripping them of their salary. And I don't have a problem with that.

Yeah. Much like most of Congress, Holder does not rely on his salary for a living.

Invite the bastage back testify once more. When he steps through the door, have the st-at-arms arrest him and escort him to the oubliette.

I don’t think so.

If what you said was true you could never stop paying anyone.

I’m not a lawyer so I could be completely wrong on this, but Holder’s contempt of Congress is ongoing. It is not a one time action in the past, but is continuing at this moment. Consequently any law that prohibits paying a government official who is in contempt of Congress would apply to Holder because his contempt is ongoing. Even if it were not ongoing, Congress could surely find him in contempt for any number of wrongdoings after the law is passed.

Outstanding...use the power of the purse.

But also take the next step beyond contempt and get a congressional warrant duly sifgned by a Judge and issue it for his arrest.

While I very much like this law it may be considered a “bill of attainder” and possibly found unconstitutional.

That’s what I am talking about. Now pass it. It’s just for show, but if they hold to their guns, Holder’s out.

At first glance it seems like a mickey mouse attempt that will likely backfire as the liberals howl with scorn and derision.

But ya gotta give this an A for effort in doing something (anything) to slow down the contempt Holder and the Obama Regime have for America.

If what you said was true you could never stop paying anyone.

Not while they're working you couldn't. In order to stop paying them you fire them. Or, as in the case of Holder, you impeach them and remove them from office.
