Is Vladimir Putin Another Adolf Hitler?
Forbes ^ | 04/16/2014 | Paul Johnson

Posted on 04/17/2014 3:50:14 AM PDT by Siegfried X

As Mein Kampf makes clear, Hitler sought to unite all the people of German speech and culture into one state, or Reich, preferably by peaceful negotiation, otherwise by war and conquest...

Today’s drift toward war with Russia seems like a replay of the past. Putin is a Russian nationalist, who believes in a strong Stalinist state. His goal is to reverse the events of 1989–the end of the Soviet state and dissolution of its enormous empire...

...to wield against the various weak states that were part of the U.S.S.R... All have ethnic Russian minorities, who speak the language, boast of their superior Russian culture and claim to have been relegated to second-class citizenship. Putin can rely on these minorities to agitate for Russian intervention whenever he wants–most importantly in the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. His successful annexation of Crimea is greatly encouraging to his long-term plans, and it’s clear he’ll use everything in his power, including military force, to reconstruct his empire.

I have been assured by many Freepers that Putin is a good Christian who only has the best interests of his country in mind. (/sarc)

I won’t argue with your conclusion.

I do, however, think there should be a Godwin’s Godwin’s Law - that the first person who invokes Godwin be penalized.

I’ll call it Larry’s Law. The idea being that the complete prohibition to any allusion to the Reich, ever, is absurd.

....and they would be wrong. We will rue the day we did nothing more than make a phone call and pass out a few MRE’s.

Wow. Pretty frightening.....Register or face deportation and confiscation of property. Those who received the documents (which also included a $50 fee to register) weren't sure whether it was authentic...BUT....

In a response to a request by a Ukrainian Jewish website, Pushilin, the interim government's regional chairman, confirmed that the flyers were distributed by his organization, but denied any connection to the leaflet's content.

So, who says, yes we handed out the flyers, but we aren't connected to the information included in them? Very troubling.

I think the real question is Putin another Barak Obama?

You know, a left-wing thug?

Weak American hating Alinskyite socialist vs Russian/Soviet loving hardline KGB Soviet Communist... 100% of the time you pick the hardline Soviet communist to win.

Yea, I never tolerate the idea that fascism and communism are the two ends of the political spectrum. They are only two heads of the same totalitarian snake.

As I always state, the opposite of total state control over the individual is not total state control of the individual, it is individual control over the state.

“...most importantly in the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.”

Looking at the map Estonia must be of huge strategic significance to the Russian navy in order to secure passage through the Gulf of Finland.

Never thought I’d see the day when I had more respect for a Russian leader than the ‘leader’ of the US.

Just like Jane Fonda back in the day?

“...But all Hitler comparisons fall flat until he kills his first 20 million....”

And Stalin and Mao made Hitler look like a rank amateur in the body count department.

But Stalin and Mao are the left’s darlings, so shhh... we can’t say that... Only Adolf is fair game, because somehow, the “Socialist” gets left out of “National Socialist” and bingo - he’s magically “right-wing”...

Boy, that’s some linguistic dancing, ain’t it....

Putin is more like Peter the Great.

Yeah - understand that we're struggling over which analogy is more or less appropriate, but it's still an analogy. Putin is Putin, that we know. He is certainly expansionist, and adept at destabilizing a neighbor for his country's political gain. He does appreciate the advantage of a strong Black Sea port and the strategic importance of access to the Mediterranean - very much as Peter the Great did and many others after him. He has not yet displayed Hitler's rather bizarre fixation on race or any tendency to pursue it by industrial-grade extinction programs. He is yet to propose a world-wide Reich; rather his focus is strongly regional.

More to Johnson's point, certain actions and especially the reactions of the West do resemble the run-up to WWII: aggression against border states and a conviction on the part of a lazy and enervated Western leadership that negotiation is capable of any solution if one side is only sincere enough and infinitely malleable. That does not mean, however, that Putin's intentions are as sweeping as Hitler's or that war is inevitable because he won't stop until he gets one. It does mean that continued weakness in the face of this aggression is extremely dangerous. All IMHO and subject to vigorous debate as always.

Now you did it. You just blasphemed against FR’s Hyperpatriot wing who has carefully and in great detail determined that this is all Vlad’s doing, he is the Antichrist, and that Obama’s clowns in the state dept going over there and pulling an “Occupy Ukraine” had nothing to do with it.

Please, for the love of GOD! Accept that ANYYTHING that does not get the Neocon worldbuilder stamp of approval means you dream and coo about shirtless Vlad the Bear rider.

He is A demon so vile that Satan worries hell will be taken from him. And don’t EVER suspect that the saintly EU had ANYTHING but the best of intentions for the Ukrainian people. OH NO! NEVER suspect that amidst their internal problems that need diversion!

And by all tat is holy, never, ever for second think that the media that everyone trashes for good reason daily, might just be up to their eyeballs in BS spinning this all.

For shame man...for shame!!

“...shirtless Vlad the Bear rider....”

Haha!! Well, the guy is what he is, but he sure as hell ain’t Adolf.

Now, if come September 1, he invades Poland, and then forces France to surrender in 6 weeks, and stands at Calais looking across the Channel wistfully - WISTFULLY, mind you - towards England, and then stamps his foot... well, maybe then we’ll compare him to Adolf.

Maybe...
