Eight million people signed up for healthcare, Obama announces ("This thing is working")

WASHINGTON — Driven by a last-minute flood of enrollments, particularly in California, sign-ups for health insurance through the Affordable Care Act’s online marketplaces hit 8 million in the law’s first year, President Obama announced Thursday.

That beats the forecast by 1 million people and caps a remarkable comeback from a disastrous rollout last fall that gave rise to predictions the law would collapse in its maiden year.

Instead, the health law, often called Obamacare, has helped bring about the largest increase in insurance coverage in the U.S. in half a century.

“This thing is working,” Obama said from the White House briefing room, taking a jab at Republican critics who continue to pledge to roll back the law. “The repeal debate is, and should be, over.”

California alone signed up more than 200,000 consumers for coverage in the last two weeks, the state announced Thursday, bringing the state's first-year total to nearly 1.4 million people, many more than any other state.

Millions more Americans have signed up for health insurance without using the marketplaces, including through Medicaid, employers or directly from insurers. That has helped to dramatically drive down the nation’s uninsured rate, according to a growing number of national surveys.

Estimates of the total gain in insurance coverage nationally are still preliminary. And enrollment is continuing on several state insurance marketplaces, which have extended their deadlines past the April 15 date used by California and the marketplaces operated by the federal government in 36 states.

Millions of Americans intimidated into knuckling under to the nanny — state by fear of the IRS.

And the creep from Hawaii/Indonesia is celebrating.

Must be due to the IRS questioning.

The LA Times editors would be best served by asking how an additional 1M people signed up when the official enrollment period ended April 1st.

Whoopee!! 8 million! Out of some 35 million without insurance. And 7 of those 8 million were people who had perfectly good insurance before Obungholecare
and lost it. Like Joe the Idiot said, “This is a big f’n deal!”

It was obvious from the start that this wasn’t about anyone’s “health care”. It was about wresting yet more control-more than we may even as of yet realise-from people over their own lives. When this planned disaster finally self-destructs, the answer will be “single payer”, and the control will be out in the open and complete. The Beast Fedzilla will know everytime any person hiccups. It was to take away what privacy remains, and take more control of the economy, which adds to the first goal. Who needs all the money in the world when they have all the power and control in the world? The Commies operated that way.

An essential element of a prima facie case of either fraud or misrepresentation is `reliance’ (on the part of the person being misled) and `damages’ that they suffer as a result of relying on the false statements.
The LA Times is carrying water for the Democrats here lying about the number because, well—that’s what they do. They know Obamacare is tanking fast.
But they don’t want it removed from life support, i.e. tax dollars, because there is nothing Democrats love more than tax dollars. (Unless it’s union dues.)
If they gave the public the true facts, even those who are covered but paying nothing into it (`subsidized’) may figure out that the services that they got before (ambulances, etc., and paid nothing for) may be in jeopardy if Obamacare kills the Golden Goose, the healthcare industry that delivers illegal aliens’ babies and provides ER services to them `No charge’.
So, they have to try to get people to rely on their lies knowing that eventually we will all be damaged when everything goes tits-up. `Eventually you run out of other peoples’ money.’ MT

Let me get this right... he gets 5 million people’s insurance cancelled, they go out and replace it, and he’s taking credit for that. Class act... all low.

In the receent past when they tried blowing smoke about the low numbers they claimed the site wasn't set up to keep count.

"So, 8 million people tapped on a few computer keys. That’s all."

Or someone programmed a computer to make a few million entries.

[Obama: “This thing is working.”]

Obama promised ACA would be “revenue neutral.” The only way it works is if its revenues equal or exceed its expenditures and even the rosiest forecasts don't predict that ever happening. This is a giant new entitlement that is creating an economic black hole.

Actually, according to surveys from the Urban Institute Health Monitor,

Roughly 2.6 million people whose plans were cancelled as a result of Obamacare.

See here:

http://www.forbes.com/sites/rickungar/2014/03/10/the-real-numbers-on-the-obamacare-effect-are-in-now-let-the-crow-eating-begin/2/

So, what happens to these folks who saw their health insurance policy cancelled?

According to the Urban Institute researchers :

“While our sample size of those with non-group health insurance who report that their plan was cancelled due to ACA compliance is small (N=123), we estimate that over half of this population is likely to be eligible for coverage assistance, mostly through Marketplace subsidies. Consistent with these findings, other work by Urban Institute researchers estimated that slightly more than half of adults with pre-reform, nongroup coverage would be eligible for Marketplace subsidies or Medicaid.”

Dead voters are no problem for Dems to produce. Dead healthcare signers would be ideal for them.

Deathcare: The crowning achievement of the Obama presidency.
