I have to admit it’s not original, but I don’t recall where I first heard it.

There was an “ad” on SNL way back, just after the double bladed razor came out. “The Triple Trac” It went something like this: The first blade grabs the whisker. The second blade stretches it out. The third blade rips it completely from your skin.

Announcer (V/O): Triple-Trac’s third blade, a finely-honed bonded platinum instrument, cuts cleanly through the whisker at its base, leaving your face as smooth as a billiard ball.

[ Finally, the cartoon shows the Triple-Trac completely shaving the whisker ]

[ DISSOLVE back to the announcer against the black background, holding up a Triple-Trac ]

Announcer: The Triple-Trac. Because you’ll believe anything.

This reminds me of an old Saturday Night Live skit for the “Billette Triple threat Blade”. Whose head had three blades. With the middle blade being duller than the enclosing two.

The ad’s animation showed.

The first blade cuts the whisker cleanly.

The second blade pulls at other errant whiskers.

So the third blade cuts the errant whisker even more cleanly.

The tag line was delivered by a Styptic penciled and Band Aid adorned Chevy Chase smiling as he said:

“Billette... Because you’ll buy anything!”

I usually use disposables or a Trak II.

I found the key is to dry the razor after use. The blades don’t last when put away wet. One blade will last 6 months with a comfortable, smooth shave if put away dry. I use the Gilette Fusion. No batteries.

I buy generic ‘whatever is cheapest’ at Wally’s.

I use those tiny slivers of soap(when the bar gets worn down) in place of shaving cream. It actually works better.

I have used the same double edged safety razor for over 20 years. A pack of ten blades is about a buck fiddy and lasts months. I can’t believe how expensive the luxury blades have become.

I would think so! Any more than two will just be razor blades dragging over freshly shaved skin.

“I use the Gilette Fusion” Same here. I tried a cheapo razor the other day and noticed a real difference.
I strop the blade every time using a small razor strop to keep it sharp, and a cartridge lasts a long time with no `sticking’ or pulling.
A strop or you could use an old belt or surface of a mirror.

And you wonder why new Internet-based companies like Dollar Shave Club have taken off in popularity. I myself use the Schick Xtreme 3 hand shaver ($5.50 for four hand shavers) with a good shaving gel for very clean shaves on my face.

I bought an old fashioned double-edged razor on EBay for $10. A 10 pack of replacement blades is $3 at Kroger.

I used to use BiC and they worked just fine. After radiation treatment to my throat any kind of blade
leaved sores, so the Norelco is now what I use.

Also works real good for head shaving.

Ah, reminds me of the good old days when SNL was actually funny. “Manly Wipe” comes to mind. My friends and I did a parody of that in 6th grade (or perhaps is was my Boy Scout troop, can’t remember) with my grandfather’s old WWII Bowie knife. We called our skit “Manly Shave”. It went over rather well.

“P&G blades seems to get dull quicker than others I have used. Would love to see someone quantify that in a study.”

I’ll bet there aren’t many here that still remember how to sharpen those old thin double edge razor blades.

When they got dull you took them out of the razor, put them inside of a smooth drinking glass, press them against the glass with your finger and rub back and forth, turn over and repeat.

They would sharpen up like new.

I’ve found that I can do nicely shavint twice a week with disposable razors.

My white stubble is near invisible

In place of $$shaving creme, I use some Wally hand soap w/ aloe. Get a great shave. Cheap razors, cheap shaving soap. Yes, I'm cheap. It's a game I play.

When I was younger, I really liked that vibrating thing that came out. A really clean and smooth shave without having to apply pressure.

Now, it’s only my need to feel clean and my wife’s complaining that makes me get out the Schick 3-blade on occaision.

It ain’t rocket surgery!

How did people ever get by before battery powered razors?/s

At great danger to themselves, they used straight razors! Or, they grew beards.
