ALBANY - People dressed in hazmat suits gathered at the state Capitol in Albany Tuesday.
But they were not part of an emergency cleanup.
They were protesting the increase in crude oil being transported through the Port of Albany by railroad tankers from North Dakota and Canada.
The oil is loaded onto barges and hauled to production facilities downstate.
Speakers called on Governor Cuomo to say no to big oil and hold them responsible in case of a big spill.
The protest was originally planned for in front of the governor's mansion.
But it was moved indoors because of the weather.

I hope none of them drove their gas guzzlers there. Or warmed their homes last night with coal, gas or oil. Hmmm... or wood.

They are claiming that fracked oil is more flammable and more dangerous than un fracked oil.
Right after the USA bombed Iraq and starting hunting for Osama, my wife and I were vacation and heading up the coast from Bodega Bay.
We were passed by about 50 vehicles from SUVs to Lexus to Mercedes with no War for Oil signs all over the vehicles.
They stopped in Gualala and got heckled by some rather brawny lumberjacks, who wanted to know if they were burning water in their vehicles.
Then a group of us, I had joined in with the hecklers followed them to the one gas station to heckle them any more. Apparently they got similar reactions up the coast until they got to Mendocino, known as liberal utopia.
And you know they don’t burn coal, gas, oil, uranium, wood or even cow chips in liberal utopia. They just wrap themselves in layers of fur, wool, cotton, leather, feathers, etc. No thought soever in how even those products are produced or get to market.
Crude Oil is a natural liquid distilled underground from mainly plants that incorporated H2O from the soil or body of water, CO2 from the air and light from the Sun by the process of photosynthesis to make long-chain hydrocarbon molecules.
Crude Oil is essentially “Liquid Sunshine,” and is the basis for the current prosperity in the World.
The CH4, CO2, CO and other gasses slowly leave the Crude Oil during transportation to the Refinery.
Truck and Rail transportation cause significant agitation, and thus significant release of gasses that must be vented to the atmosphere during transportation from tanks carried by Trucks and Rail, and thus the delivered Crude Oil is of lower potential use.
Pipeline transportation of Crude Oil captures these valuable gasses, and delivers the Higher grade Crude Oil plus the valuable gasses to the Refinery.
For Six years the Obama Federal Government, (Obamanation), has been excessively polluting the atmosphere from truck and rail tanks, due to its decision to block the 50 feet of required US/ Canada border for the building of the XL Pipeline.
IMHO, I think B. Hussein Obama is waiting to fund his failed Obamacare Wealth Transfer Program by Nationalizing all US Pipelines, and then building the XL Pipeline to pay back his Democrat donor Contractors and Labor Unions, and charge the expense to our Grandchildren’s Descendants.
Then the speakers got into their individual cars and went home.

Like his dumbass father Andrew Cuomo, will never allow fracking in NY for as long as he is governor. The same way his dumbass father would not allow the speed limit to be raised from 55 mph, for as long as he was governor.
If they were in proper hazmat suits, should they not be already protected from the “weather” ....
Or do New York hazmat suits melt in the rain?
