Heres a disturbing new idea from some members of Congress: Trade instant citizenship to illegal immigrants if theyll agree to serve in the U.S. military.
Serving in the military is a high calling and a privilegecertainly not something to be treated as a bargaining chip in immigration politics. Yet these congressmen are trying to sneak this provision into the larger National Defense Authorization Act, which lays out the budget for the Department of Defense.
Whats more, the immigrants in question would be those who are brought to the U.S. as childrenoften called DREAMers (after the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act).
Allowing unlawful immigrants to join the military in exchange for citizenship is a radical and perverse incentive that would encourage more illegal immigration of children, write Heritage experts David Inserra and Cully Stimson.
One of the problems with any amnesty-based immigration policy is that it encourages more illegal immigration. Offering a shortcut to citizenship in return for military service is no different.
And not only would this plan worsen immigration problems; it would also create new security concerns. Inserra and Stimson warn:

Filling the military with people beholden to another country can be dangerous, as the Ukraine has discovered when all their Russian members decided to defect, taking hardware with them.
Continuing to weaken our military.
Yep. Congress and our enemies (but I repeat myself) took note...
They may not hesitate when His Royal Swineness issues orders to kill Americans.
We better start looking to God to fix this place instead of corrupt humans.
Why do we always wait till it's too late before we seek God's assistance?
It worked well for Rome...
What a great idea! We can take foreigners and fill our military with them. What could go wrong?
Excellent. Load up the military with people who cannot speak the language. Or, divert millions in scarce mil funds to train non-Hispanic speakers to speak Spanish.
And just what the hell do you think happens should they get a dishonorable discharge? You’ll see Schmuck Schumer right at the front of the line defending their right to keep their families here and to vote, in-state tuition if not taxpayer-paid job assistance and get food stamps and rent subsidies til the dying days of their great grandchildren.
EFF everything.
This was one of the big causes of the downfall of the Roman Empire.
The Roman empire offered foreigners citizenship for military service. Look how well it worked out for them.
With this plan thousands of American boys who aspire to join OUR Military will be denied that opportunity due to Illegal Aliens who will take their jobs.
So, how do they pass their security clearance?
Don’t think so.
what happened in Rome?
A military of foreign mercenaries. What could possibly go wrong?
Oh yea THIS is a GREAT idea
especially now when we are kicking out so many amrican citizens
Yea let’s enlist low skilled illegals who can’t speak English
and spend our taxpayer money on them instead of real Americans.
Well you know our Congresmen’s kids aren’t going to join.
The Navy has been providing citizenship to the people of the Phillipines for decades. Not in and of itself a bad thing but in the amounts described will provide for yet another degradation of discipline within the ranks.
Well, Rome was out of steam and collapsing as an empire by then.
The USA on the other hand....nevermind
In 1958-60 my Signal Co. had two English chefs(worked in high end hotels in London) gain citizenship that way. They had to complete 4 years and get an Honorable Discharge to obtain citizenship.
Even when in the field, we had the best meals in the Army, bar none. One was a Meat Chef the other was a Pastry Chef but they did overlap.
On bivouac outside FT. Bragg, on a cold November 1959 day we enjoyed the largest and best tasting Cherry Popover pastries that anyone ever had.
In October 1958, at Redstone Arsenal , I worked a Top Secret job with an American Born Citizen whose uncle was a Albanian Ambassador, Communist, and he had the same clearance I had.
It is the Individual that has to be evaluated. An Illegal that “crossed” should not have that privilege, not one smidgen, period!
