CHATTANOOGA (Reuters) -- The UAW said today it is withdrawing its objection claiming undue outside political interference in a February vote it lost among workers at the Volkswagen AG plant in Tennessee.
UAW President Bob King, in a statement issued by the union this morning, said the process of objecting to the National Labor Relations Board could have dragged on for months if not years.
King and the UAW announced the withdrawal on the morning of the scheduled start of an NLRB hearing in Chattanooga on the union's objection.
Hopefully, next time there is an election at Chattanooga there will be a Republican appointed NLRB.
Wishful thinking. They lost because workers are smart enough to realize that the union dooms the individual to the performance of the lowest common denominator in the membership.
Better yet, there should be no NLRB, no minimum wage and Right to Work should prevail everywhere. When the Big Labor thugs are no longer able to coerce membership into their rackets, unions will wither away and die.
But there is not going to be Republican super majorities in Congress and in every state legislature.
Making realistic goals instead of living in Fantasy Land is a better option.
Actually, what is needed is the right to bargain. That doesn’t exist anywhere there is a union in the shop, whether you are a member or not. We need to repeal the Wagner Act.
Tennessee is not a pro union state as such. Some exist but for the most part most companies are non union. That is one reason the state was not as hard hit in the recession and companies are still locating here.
U - Underworked A - Asinine W - Whiners. The only problem is that they will try again sometime down the road and it will be a fiasco.
The UAW can’t go forward with this and win, so they dropped it.
Also, they can’t go into the 2014 election campaign with this still on the books, because Zero and his fellow Demagogic Party members are pushing hard for amnesty and pushing hard against Keystone XL, fracking, and drilling in general — all of which impacts unionized unionized labor.
I don’t count the SEIU, because what most of the members do isn’t labor.
This is a blow to the Demwits, and even to Zero, who isn’t looking forward to the last couple years of his paid vacation.
Thanks Reaganez.
Yeah, that is the UAW’s legal right to try again after one year. And have another election a year after that.
It is probably pouring good money after bad and taking money away from Democratic campaigns.
I think they would have surely won the lawsuit, but were convinced they would lose another election.
