Supreme Court Upholds Michigan's Affirmative Action Ban

"Our state Constitution requires equal treatment in college admissions, because it is fundamentally wrong to treat people differently based on the color of their skin," Republican Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette said. "A majority of Michigan voters embraced the ideal of equal treatment in 2006, and today their decision was affirmed."

...

Justice Sonia Sotomayor, joined by Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, filed a 58-page dissent and summarized it from the bench—a signal that the court's minority strongly disagrees with the majority.

Justice Sotomayor wrote that Michigan voters "changed the basic rules of the political process in that State in a manner that uniquely disadvantaged racial minorities." In order to obtain admissions preferences, they now would have to amend the state Constitution, she wrote, while other groups—such as alumni children or athletes—could obtain admissions preferences more easily, such as by lobbying university regents or administrators.

Justice Elena Kagan recused herself from the case, likely because she had been involved in the case in her prior post of U.S. solicitor general.

They fail to understand how racist it is to hand something to someone and go, "Here, you get this simply because of your skin color because we know you are inferior and incapable based on your skin color."

Which is what affirmative action does.
It tells people that they cannot do things based on their skin color, so "we'll just hand this to you."

I called my state Senator today and he agreed to do a resolution referendum. HE WILL SPONSOR. We are tired of blacks and Hispanics getting preference but it is now OVER.

To which, I say....If, as a business owner, it’s illegal for me NOT to hire you because of the color of your skin. Why then should you be promoted for that very same reason???

since when does any minority get or deserve special treatment just for being a minority? so what if you’re a minority? why does that somehow grant special privileges? it’s time to end this stupid crap now.

they sure as hell are going to end special privileges for minorities when whites are under 50% of the population.

if this were applied comsistently, men would have family court laws on their side, and the nba and nfl would have to hire a lot more white players.

They never have “deserved” it and this crap should have been put a STOP to DECADES ago. The people have been against this hypocrisy from the get-go but the hypocrites in politics, education, HR depts, always ok with screwing somebody. Notice how it’s never themselves nor their Lil Darlins that get the shaft.

If you can’t compete, you don’t belong. It’s as simple as that.

From Scalia's opening:

"It has come to this. Called upon to explore the jurisprudential twilight zone between two errant lines of precedent, we confront a frighteningly bizarre question: Does the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment forbid what its text plainly requires?"

look what has happened to America - Barack Hussein Obama America’s First Affirmative Action pResident of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue washington DC. America would have been better to elect Pepe LePeuw see he is black and white too and he stinks just as well. Being from Michigan skin color shouldn’t matter. Up here in the UP of MI, the cold does discriminate by skin color. Neither does mosquitoes and ticks, they are non discriminatory they like everybody the same regardless of skin color or even blood type. now no see ums that is a different story. those damn black biting flies suck big time.

Michigan is my Alma mater. A few months back a radical black student group was threatening violence if they didn't get their seven demands met. Look for this to heat up again.

It’s not only racist but disgraceful in every sense of the word.

It doesn’t treat human beings with darker skin shades as human beings. It treats them as statistics. Therefore it dehumanizes people.

You’re 100% correct, but the mindset of the people handed things is that everybody is handed things...they’re just getting theirs. Nobody earns anything. Like King Barack “you didn’t earn that” Obama told the country. And basically, Obama most likely never legitimately earned anything in his life. He is a prime example of somebody elevated far beyond his competence. So a very large pct. of his constituency think the same thing i.e. “I’m only getting what’s coming to me.” That’s the way these people think.

“Affirmative action” is nothing but racial profiling wearing lipstick and a tutu.
