Rand Paul Backs Work Visas for Illegal Immigrants
Breitbart's Big Government ^ | April 23, 2014 | Tony Lee

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) believes the country's illegal immigrants should be given work visas and be allowed to remain in the United States.

The potential 2016 presidential contender spoke at the Institute of Politics at the University of Chicago on Tuesday and told David Axelrod, President Barack Obama's former top adviser who now heads the institute, that he did not vote for the Senate's comprehensive immigration reform bill. He did not do so because it did not grant enough work visas in the agricultural and construction industries. The Congressional Budget Office determined that bill would lower the wages of American workers.

When Axelrod asked him what he would do with the country's illegal immigrants, Paul said, "I'd expand the work visa program to include them."

In addition to his support for this form of amnesty, Paul said he was for "allowing a lot of immigration" but realized that the United States could not "invite the whole world." He noted that "700 million people would come" if America had open borders.

Paul said illegal immigrants who may be given an opportunity to get citizenship or legalization should not have to return to their home countries....

11 to 20 million more workers to compete legally for American jobs. Any legislation that allows the lawbreakers to stay and work here is amnesty. Rand Paul supports amnesty.

Isn’t defense of borders a tenet of libertarianism? If so, then Rand is full-on liberal here.

The old “bracero” program worked pretty well in California, and allowed us to track those who had temporary work visas. Picking grapes or lettuce is back breaking work, and I can see how it would be mutually beneficial to use people who have no problem with this type of labor.

It’s a whole lot better than our current open borders, and the subsequent drain on “entitlements” that come right out of our pockets, with zero control over illegals.

That is a smart proposal. Follow Singapore’s example. It is the most prosperous country per capita in SE Asia. They have no food stamps program, no unemployment compensation program and low corporate tax. Result is they have more jobs than citizens which number 3.5 million.

So what is Singapore’s immigration program?
WORK PERMITS!

There are 2 million foreign workers on 2 year work permits in Singapore. They must return after 2 years are up and then re-apply for another work permit.

The work permit system tells Singapore who is there, where they work, and where they live. Unlike USA which has no clue who is here and what the heck they are doing.

In 2006 I was talking with a Mexican painter in Alabama who was working for a large Atlanta company and earning $4 an hour. He said if he could get work in Mexico he would rather go home. I just heard a report today that Mexicans are being arrested while trying to leave the country, with no contraband or criminal warrents outstanding, being forced to serve time and then deported. I guess we taxpayers just have to keep the Prison/Industrial Complex well paid and supplied with bodies!!

They’d get visas then go directly on the government dole (if they aren’t on it already for their kids and other stuff).

Actually no. Libertarians believe in the free flow of labor across borders.

Here is the Libertarian platform on immigration

“On one hand, we must remain firm; on the other, let’s be flexible: We can expect 700 million hungry invaders, if we have open borders, but we can employ them all on huge pot farms.

I'm not opposed to temporary work visas in niche industries, but c'mon. That's not what Rand Paul is proposing. He's trying to sell an amnesty!

If I was forced to add 20 million foreigners to America's population, why in the world would I want the illegal aliens? They're low skill lawbreakers. I'd rather fast track those who have been LEGALLY waiting in line.

Rand Paul has declared war on unemployed legal Americans. Paul has staked out a position of supporting law breaking ILLEGAL ALIENS over unemployed legal citizens. What a moronic turd. Hope all you LIBERALtarians are happy with your poor excuse for a human being.
