Rand Paul Backs Work Visas for Illegal Immigrants
Breitbart's Big Government ^ | April 23, 2014 | Tony Lee

Posted on 04/23/2014 9:53:03 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) believes the country's illegal immigrants should be given work visas and be allowed to remain in the United States.

The potential 2016 presidential contender spoke at the Institute of Politics at the University of Chicago on Tuesday and told David Axelrod, President Barack Obama's former top adviser who now heads the institute, that he did not vote for the Senate's comprehensive immigration reform bill. He did not do so because it did not grant enough work visas in the agricultural and construction industries. The Congressional Budget Office determined that bill would lower the wages of American workers.

When Axelrod asked him what he would do with the country's illegal immigrants, Paul said, "I'd expand the work visa program to include them."

In addition to his support for this form of amnesty, Paul said he was for "allowing a lot of immigration" but realized that the United States could not "invite the whole world." He noted that "700 million people would come" if America had open borders.

Paul said illegal immigrants who may be given an opportunity to get citizenship or legalization should not have to return to their home countries....

Whatever is proposed is absolutely worthless without enforcement. That’s the real problem.

So we create a work permit system, and then what? Think we’re going to deport those who overstay their work visas? We don’t do that now. What if employers would rather keep their illegal labor off the books in order to pay less and undercut their competition? The incentives that currently make illegal alien labor profitable would still exist. What if the illegals themselves don’t want to participate? Maybe they don’t want to become Americans and pay taxes.

Again, no plan is going to work if the federal government will not enforce the law. You cannot offer a carrot if you aren’t also willing to use the stick, and there’s no will in DC to do that.

How about we just cut off all the freebies.

And risk the ire of Presidente de los Estados Unidos Mexicanos! God forbid we do anything to protect our sovereignty and the rightful citizens of the United States of America, no, no we must bow to the demands of a foreign power that refuses to treat invaders of its borders the same way it demands we treat Mexican invaders of our borders.

Obama-Reid-Pelosi triumvirate will never enforce any laws detrimental to democrats. You are right on that.

Note that there is no such word as DINO in democrat vocabulary. Democrats always support other democrats regardless of differences.

I vacationed in Singapore a month ago. The infrastructure is better than anything I saw in US. It is easy for them to enforce immigration laws. You can not enter and reside in the country unless you have a 2 year work permit. SO they know at all times where you are and where you work.

“In 2006 I was talking with a Mexican painter in Alabama who was working for a large Atlanta company and earning $4 an hour...”

Multiply that by n-million, and you have the decline in wages that we have seen.

“The old “bracero” program worked pretty well in California,”

I thought it worked well too. I worked along side them in the 60s and remember being shocked the 1st time I saw a Border Patrol plane fly over and a bunch of Mexicans run to hide.

A whole different attitude then as they were afraid to break our laws and get caught.

Another interesting tidbit from Singapore...

There are signposts everywhere saying “Singapore has death penalty for drug dealers”. People I met told me there is no drug problem in Singapore.

Total crap.

Eliminate all welfare in the US and anything that stinks like welfare.

Then Americans will be happy to do ag jobs and other labor for money, so they can eat and buy shoes to wear.

The reason Americans “won’t do” this kind of labor is because they’d rather get welfare or sell drugs.

Execute drug dealers and eliminate welfare. Plenty of Americans would soon be overjoyed to pick tomatoes and mow grass.

I also noticed that the LP is averse to “acting as policeman for the world” on its platform. Well, you abandon that and you’ll have someone who will take the job willingly to the ends of expanding its reach globally in an imperial sense.

Another fool who puts the interests of foreign national lawbreakers first.

Next!

Do you think that all these tens and tens, and tens and tens of millions of illegals over the last few decades have been coming here to pick some grapes and lettuce?

Where do you live where you haven’t noticed them taking over all blue collar work?
