Daniel Patrick Moynihan Predicted the Future of the Black Family...[Bundy Echoed Democrat]

The Negro Family: The Case for National Action, the 78-page report written by a then 38-year old Daniel Patrick ‘Pat’ Moynihan, an assistant secretary of labor for policy in the Lyndon B. Johnson administration, was never supposed to see the light of day.

The Negro Family, which later came to be widely known simply as “The Moynihan Report,” did not even originally have Moynihan’s name on it’s cover–the document was only meant to be distributed to high-ranking members of the Johnson administration in order to spur discussion regarding what policies could be implemented in order to assist the Negro family with the task of fully integrating society. But, Moynihan was also issuing a warning. The Negro family was already suffering rates of familial disintegration, poverty, and out-of-wedlock pregnancy at rates far higher than white families; if something was not done soon, he warned that the problems of lower class blacks (i.e., a “tangle of pathology”) may well become self-perpetuating, if they had not become self-perpetuating already.

Clive Bundy essentially is echoing what Daniel Patrick Moynihan, A DEMOCRAT, said, is he not?

The black family is falling apart UNLESS you pervert the definition of family....and Bundy, in his old man way, says it in a clumsy way....but at least he didn't use the same word as ROBERT BYRD....

His personal views on the plight of blacks and what the government has done and still does really has no bearing on what happened with the BLM at his ranch, nor will it.

Oppressive government is the problem of people of all callings, races and conditions, regardless of whether their terminology and ability to correctly navigate today’s PC minefield exists or not.

The problem people on the right make when speaking on this is in singling out blacks.

The simple fact is that the democrat plantation contains an ever growing number of whites and should be put in that context.

It really does no good for us to “excuse” what Bundy said by comparing it to the libspeak of democrats.

See, they get a free pass here. They get to use the double standard.

But as conservatives; we are held to one higher standard.

The point is - we must not focus on Bundy but on the larger issue at hand - that is the erosion of property rights at the hands of Harry Reid and Fedzilla.

Not a mole. My beef with Bundy is his belief that slaves had a family life. Some may have. But they were bred, bought and sold. Bundy is 95% correct. Blacks are slaves to government, and the democRat policies are working as designed.

From the linked article;

“Barack Obama has done nothing directly to help black families, besides giving a few speeches in black churches where he admonishes black men for their failure to be loving husbands and fathers. Obama has talked, but he has done nothing to change policy in any way that would turn the tide on the unraveling of the black family. When 20 children were killed in a mass shooting in Newtowne, CT, the President announced proposals addressing gun control approximately 2 months later. How many black men were killed in Chicago and Detroit last year and yet the President has committed to no efforts to either modify or create new public policy to help black men or black families?”

Exactly what part of what Bundy said is NOT true? Is there a housing project in North Vegas? Are people sitting around doing nothing? Do black people have a high rate of abortion, joblessness and fatherless kids?

And BTW - Negro is a perfectly acceptable word and is in fact the scientific appellation for that race of people. Others include caucasian and mongoloid.

I am so incredibly sick and tired of the Speech Police and the Perpetually Offended.

The recent comments on the Facebook page seem to indicate the people understand Bundy is NOT a racist.

Seems the people understand even better than that boy genius Rand Paul.

It's apparent that you haven't read Moynihan's report. I did, sometime shortly after it became public. It was a most impressive report.

You need to realize that Moynihan wrote the report as a professional policy analyst -- not as a partisan politician, or writer of inflammatory screeds for the mass media. Moynihan worked for the Kennedy administration, quit working for the Johnston administration -- and was hired by the Nixon administration. He was not just some partisan political hack. The fact that he was hired for senior positions by both Democrat and Republican presidents shows how much his skills were respected.

Moynihan took a lot of flack over his report -- almost all of it from leftists and race-baiters.

Over the past 4 decades, I've discussed this report several times -- whenever the topic of social welfare, War on Poverty, or "the Negro question" was raised. I told my listeners what I'll tell you now -- if you only have time to read one thing about those subjects, read the Moynihan report. A lot of details have changed in the intervening decades, but the principles remain solid.

Am I wrong to think that Bundy’s observations of the current situation reflect the concerns Moynihan raised?

I don’t see a refutation of that premise. I don’t recall reading more than excerpts of the report, but perhaps I will now that you have piqued my interest.

Did the author of the article linked accurately describe the content?

Bundy was partly correct (about the insidious effects of the welfare state) -- but, his ludicrous statements (at least as they were reported) regarding slavery were simply indefensible.

The article was fairly accurate -- but far from complete.

The report is becoming dated, with regard to specific programs in place at the time of writing -- but, (IMHO) it serves as a model of how to analyze and report on a complex social problem.

The quote I saw mentioned slavery in passing and compared it to the loss of freedom evident in the dependence on government. Slavery per se, as you can see, was not the primary focus of his observations.

My concern is that the media, Rand Paul, and other hand wringers will “major in the minors”...that is, strain their credulity over a small point and miss the overall theme of his statement.

The tendency is especially appalling when the obvious attempt is to assassinate his character. Star Parker wrote an entire book about the subject, and the media ignored her.

I also get sick of the thin skinned whiners. The whole idea of African American wasn't introduced into the language until the 1970-80’s/ Negro is a designation of a race, your right on....50’s when I was in high school, colored was a perfectly correct term than offended no one and so was negro The Negro family was intact and educated, doctors, lawyers, nurses etc. Detroit did not have a ghetto mentality until forced busing and they moved out of Detroit just like the white folks did. Not wanting your first grade child put on a bus and went to a school where they didn't know anyone and it was insulting to Negro familys to be told their kids couldn't learn unless they sat next to a white kid. Some of those bus rides took over an hour.

Coleman Young was the biggest racist mayor of his day. You and Bundy are correct, the colored family is worse off today than they were in the 50's. And the family gave a damn where their kids were and pushed education. Today they are not suppose to be smart, thats acting white.
