A bill banning the sale of single-shot handguns that can be modified into semi-automatic weapons advanced in the California legislature on Thursday as lawmakers sought to close what the bill's supporters say is a loophole in the state's gun safety laws.
Gun control advocates say thousands of weapons are sold in California each year without a required safety feature that indicates when a bullet is in the chamber, endangering children and others who may be shot accidentally.
The bill passed the assembly 48-25, and goes to the state senate.

Yeah, because CA is too free as it is.
How does this sentence make any sense? By definition a single shot weapon is incapable of holding more than one round at a time. Is this just another example of an ignorant journalist confusing single action with single shot?
As a rider on the law should be a window installed in every politicians head to assure that there is actually a brain there.

The problem with too many folks who want to be reporters is they’re glorified English majors who don’t know how to parse and report the details any more.
I’ve called up a reporter who referred to an SKS as a Chinese made AK-47 knock-off and the response I received was “well that’s what the NOPD said it was”. No desire to actually learn the details or understand the error. Just write that paper... get to the next story... and see if they can get invited to a cool party for the weekend.
And to think, in 1982 the citizens of California rejected Prop 15 to ban the sale of handguns in Kali.
Since that day, the politicians have been working overtime to find a way around the will of the people, one step at a time.

Those politicians ARE doing the will of the people. California's politicians don't magically materialize in Sacramento. They are elected by a state full of narcissistic asshats.
Then why is it that the citizens of Cali have never been allowed to vote on a gun ban since?
Some autos cannot be sold in CA, due to various regulations. No logical reasons, but safety is cited.
So some autos are ‘converted’ to single shot, and then sold in CA. State DOJ agrees with the process. Then the owner can modify his single shot into an auto.
For example, Model 1911s, designed as originally by John Browning cannot be sold in CA because of no loaded chamber indicator.
Remember, you are dealing with idiots. facts and the truth don’t necessarily make any difference.
I say we just drill a new inspection hole each year...

They crossed the silly threshold years ago, but it just keeps getting sillier.
There's a bunch of good, safe weapons that are not on the list. Major brands.
But you can buy one from a friend or family in another state and import it.
Still have to "register".
Generally you want about 1/2 your guns around here to be registered.
That way you have some you can use during normal times to shoot home invaders and zombies, and a whole 'nuther set for TEOTWAWKI.
Living here I can tell you nobody is following the law to a 'T'.

In California, the ability for anyone except a LEO to own a gun of any kind under any circumstances whatsoever is the MAIN "loophole in the state's gun safety laws."
Another stupid law to protect stupid people from themselves. Lets just pass a law against being stupid. That way we can eliminate all the other laws because everyone will be smart.
