Brian Alunan has nothing to show for the 150 applications he has submitted to Sacramento area employers over the last few months. No bites, no interviews, no job.
Alunan is 29, and lives with his parents. His work history is spotty. His unemployment benefits have ended. The bank is about to take his car.
If every generation is supposed to be better off financially than the one that proceeded it, Sacramento “millennials” have a lot of catching up to do.
Several experts said the economy is the primary culprit. Many millennials graduated from high school or college during the Great Recession and had trouble finding work. Others were just getting started as professionals and were the first laid off during the economic downturn.

My daughter went to CA for her first job out of college, because that's where she was offered a job. Once she got skills, she moved on, owns a house now, etc.
If this were my kid, I'd buy him a one way bus ticket to North Dakota, where I've worked off and on for the last three years - lots of work there and good money - I plan to retire before 60.
So - what is his degree IN? Is he willing to work in a job that HE considers beneath him but employers do not? Does he get up before 10? Is he covered with tattoos? Is he slothful?
There are those who have worked hard and, at his same age, have housing, wives, and children. Have lives! The world doesn’t owe this basement-denizen anything. He should pick up his lower lip and get a life.

I see Millenials turning against the democrats, but as they seem to have a lot less of a moral and liberty compass as earlier generations, I don’t see them becoming conservatives any time in the future unless if there is some kind of revival.
There was a FReeper here a while back, a truck driver, that was out of work. I posted that he could to to ND today and a get a nice signing bonus, work for a year, live in his truck, and save enough to go where he wanted.
He said he would rather be on unemployment than move to a “nothing” state like North Dakota.
If I was in that situation, I would move. In a heartbeat. I can do just about anything for a year.
the only way the “Millennials” even consider going Republican is if the GOP goes libertarian on social issues. And that’s not about to happen.
These kids have been suckered into thinking that THE issue of the day is “Gay Rights.” It’s more important than the economy!!! They can continue to live with Mom and Dad so long and Bill and Phil can wed.
This is generalizing, but it does seem to be the overall sense of the generation.

The examples for them to learn from are everywhere now and simple to see....and listed in the comments that follow yours on Obamacare, the difficulty (Because of Government) trying to start a business.
Many of them are getting it. I say this as I have 5 of my own kids that now get it and over 25 young employees that I see beginning to get it.
They are products of an education that they now see lied to them and for many many of these kids the LIGHT is going on.
They want to work, make money, raise kids (But not until they know they can function)
I have grown more frustrated for them as I have become familiar with their struggles and difficulty in trying to figure a world out that had been presented to them as something different. Now seeing them figure out the reality of their situation and the almost impossible way out makes me agree...

A neighbor lady recently did that for her middle son to get him out of their house and the state. She bought him a one way ticket to Australia and helped him to get a work permit.

My son is not your typical millennial and I’d like to think that he might be the next Bill Gates. Hey I can hope.
But hard work and ambition and initiative are not recognized as a positive trait anymore.
That's the problem with all these supposedly hard luck stories - the people in them are lazy snobs who think the world owes them a comfortable easy life. That said, I know more college grads living with their parents than I've ever seen in my life. Their jobs may or may not be crappy, but almost all of them are drowning in student loan debt. The millenials do have a tough road ahead of them.

I would use term limits as a litmus test for conservatives.
Wonder just what situation those kids in the picture are in now.
Also, there is little mention of what these kids studied if they are college graduates. Easy majors (for example, psychology) are not sought after by employers. Business majors are a dime a dozen, so a C-average is not going to get you a job when there are a dozen other applicants with stronger GPAs.
What these kids of the participation trophy generation have not learned is there is a direct correlation between hard work and results.
