House to Vote in May on Holding IRS Official Lois Lerner in Contempt

John D. McKinnon

The House of Representatives will vote in May to hold former Internal Revenue Service official Lois Lerner in contempt of Congress, a move that likely will fan the ongoing controversy over IRS targeting of conservative groups.

House GOP leaders made their plans known on Friday in a memo outlining their priorities for the month.

...

The vote to hold Ms. Lerner in contempt could have more immediate impact. The IRS controversy already has become a rallying cry for the GOP conservative base heading into the 2014 election campaign.

...

In the meantime, the contempt vote could put the Obama administration in an awkward spot.

The law says that if the House or Senate votes to hold someone in contempt of Congress for failing to comply with a subpoena, the matter is referred to the local U.S. attorney. It is then the “duty” of the U.S. attorney to “bring the matter before the grand jury for its action,” according to the statute.

The Department of Justice recently has declined to take contempt cases to a grand jury where executive branch officials asserted executive privilege. But this case involves the Fifth Amendment, not executive privilege, raising a difficult question for the department.

They’re WAY behind the times.

I’ve held Lois Lerner in contempt ever since I first heard her speak.

This ‘prosecution’ against the misuse of the IRS is proceeding at a pace that makes a Glacier resemble a meteor!
This is being draaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaged out by hidden RINOs for hidden reasons.

It should be done, but it’s only symbolic. The current corrupt ‘justice’ department will not prosecute her.

In a few months, she will get a high-paying low-effort job, thanks to the dem party.

In May they’ll decide to delay the vote until February.

In what way is it "difficult" for them? It's quite simple, really. The Holder DOJ has failed to follow the law before; and the Holder DOJ will continue to break the law.

I agree with you. I like the picture of dems being forced to defend a lawless IRS agent just before an election.

I’m all set to vote right now on demonstrating my complete and utter contempt for the House of “Representatives”.

What a worthless collection of reprobates, liars, cretins and vermin they are.

Too bad that Todd Beemer and his pals didn’t just stay in their seats.

What if only a distant U.S. attorney is available?

The lights are set on extra low and the smoke machines are running 24/7 in those back rooms. Oh, to be a fly on the wall. THIS is where it gets interesting. Up till now has been just fluff. Now, the rubber will meet the road.

I do so hope the pubbies slam her but good, preferably into prison for 10-15 years.

We have GOT to stop letting these sleazy slime bags do horrible things and get away with just a mild slap on the back of the hand.

Way past time for a hangin’ judge.

Great pic smooth.
