I’m not minimizing the situation at all, ilovesarah. But this type of story has gone on for thousands of years in rare cases. Boy likes girl, girl sees him as a friend, girl likes another boy.. tragedy. Love triangles can be unusually nasty. I think what the article isn’t saying is the boy probably had mental issues before this incident. That being said... I feel so sorry for this poor girl. May she rest in peace and may justice for her be done.

There’s a whole genre in country western/blue grass called Murder Ballads. Often its when the girl is pregnant. Often sung by the dead girl. Tom Dooley comes to mind. I think Barbara Allen is also one that goes back centuries.

True, but either it is that more of this is reported, or people are really not dealing with rejection very well. In a society that mollycoddles, gives out participation awards, and does not prepare the little darlings for a few bumps to their egos (or medicates them out of them), I suspect there will be more and worse.
