De Blasio wants to ban new wood fireplaces

Mayor Bill de Blasio celebrated Earth Day on Tuesday by proposing more regulations — including a ban on new wood-burning fireplaces.

The mayor made the proposal, along with those for other sweeping regulations that he said would update emission standards and help curb air pollution.

Instead of wood-burning fireplaces, de Blasio wants to allow only cleaner-burning units, such as those that use natural gas.

Residents who already have wood-burning fireplaces would be allowed to keep them, but would be required to use only firewood that has 20 percent moisture or less, according to the Department of Environmental Protection.

Officials said that drier wood burns more cleanly and releases fewer toxins into the air.

Appearing with City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito and DEP Commissioner Emily Lloyd, de Blasio said he would also seek legislation that would crack down on food trucks and refrigeration vehicles.

He specifically wants food trucks to switch from diesel engines to electric.

The mayor said such small changes “will make a fundamental difference for thousands of New Yorkers living with asthma.”

including a ban on new wood-burning fireplaces.

I hope the son of a bitch bans everything. I hope he regulates airconditing at no lower than 80 in the summer and heating no higher than 60 in the winter. I hope he doubles the taxes on NYers. I hope he triples the dog license tax in the Bronx and makes overnight on street parking illegal. New Yorkers elected him and they deserve every bit of screwing he's planning on giving them. Further those a$$holes keep sending liberals to kongress to export their tyranny to the rest of the country. No government regulation is too burdensome to be applied to NYC.

> You could get one of these and then document every piece of wood you chuck into the fireplace.

Isn’t the idea that we would have to something so stupid, even if only in concept, pure insanity?...: )

This should help the supply shortage for states with common sense. I need one to have as a standby when gas or electricity is not working.

This guy is great!

He’s such a deranged downer, the whole world will end up hating him or anyone like him!

Mr. No Fun thug himself.

Way to go New York! You elected the biggest kill joy of the 21st century!

At least they won’t catch him in bed with some little skink from Jersey...that would be almost normal, and he’s Mr. A.B. Normal in the flesh!

In a sensible world the Conservative party could take advantage of this, but that would imply there was any sense in that party.

would be allowed to keep them, but would be required to use only firewood that has...

In other words, we want a total ban without grandfathering, but not feeling comfortable saying so, will just put in some regulations to achieve that result.

What’s a cord of firewood going for in the big apple? Split and stacked, or just rounds? How much do you tip a wood guy?

We need to ban the smoke coming out of De Blasio’s ears. You know, where there is Liberalism, there is smoke and obfuscation.

We have a pellet stove and in California even those are under the ‘no burn days’. We use it all winter anyway. It puts out no visible smoke at all.

“This’ll be all moot once the bodies start piling up from the increase in crime this moron has set in motion.”

A lot of these things were meaningless from the start because the swelling population of immigrants in the NYC metro area (illegals and legal) live completely outside the law anyway. They could increase the minimum wage to $100 per hour, and still find that 75% of the people working are earning an untaxed $10 per hour in cash. This area is starting to look like Red China, with crumbling infrastructure and illegals peddling to work each morning on their bicycles...

Remember when wood-burning technology was the "green energy"? People who lived on not all that large tracts of land can provide for a large percentage of their heating needs managing their own wooded land. In NYC, they don't have those woods but it's still an option to keep the profits away from the elite.

But, alas, there's no profit in that for the elitists. Gotta' have that bird killing, gov subsidized wind and solat for the money whores.

This is what I mean about a good old fashioned ass kicking. De Blasio and every other liberal needs about five minutes of a curb stomping within an inch of their lives to get this nonsense out of their heads and understand the great majority of Americans just trying to earn a living and raise their families are beyond fed up with their bs.

Does NY have a voter “recall” law? Now would be a good time to use it.
