De Blasio wants to ban new wood fireplaces

Mayor Bill de Blasio celebrated Earth Day on Tuesday by proposing more regulations — including a ban on new wood-burning fireplaces.

The mayor made the proposal, along with those for other sweeping regulations that he said would update emission standards and help curb air pollution.

Instead of wood-burning fireplaces, de Blasio wants to allow only cleaner-burning units, such as those that use natural gas.

Residents who already have wood-burning fireplaces would be allowed to keep them, but would be required to use only firewood that has 20 percent moisture or less, according to the Department of Environmental Protection.

Officials said that drier wood burns more cleanly and releases fewer toxins into the air.

Appearing with City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito and DEP Commissioner Emily Lloyd, de Blasio said he would also seek legislation that would crack down on food trucks and refrigeration vehicles.

He specifically wants food trucks to switch from diesel engines to electric.

The mayor said such small changes “will make a fundamental difference for thousands of New Yorkers living with asthma.”

So what happens when you can’t afford the gas/electricity and burning wood is banned...

Freeze to death you say....uh? What a lovely world we live in where asthma is treatable and staying warm is forbidden even unto death...

Must keep everyone on the grid. Easier to control. Want your natural gas service restored? Turn in your guns, emergency food, neighbors, mom and dad, etc.

Yes, let’s crack down on those nasty trucks that bring food and refrigerated goods into the city.

The liberal fascists can’t help themselves. Regulations and taxes, they live to impose them.

I already banned my own. Wood fireplaces are holes to throw money into.

“”””He specifically wants food trucks to switch from diesel engines to electric. “””””

That’s because electricity comes from that outlet thingy on the wall and doesn’t pollute.

“It’s happy days for New York.”

Mayor DeWilhelm knows what’s best for you.

This’ll be all moot once the bodies start piling up from the increase in crime this moron has set in motion.

Citizen, your wood registers at 23.7%. Book 'em, Dano.

So I’m wondering about the 20% moisture rule. How do you enforce that? Ban firewood cutting? Only allow wood from state approved sources? Unannounced woodpile inspections? New NY Dept of Wood? Wood pile certification permits?

And how are you going to be able to detect how much moisture is your wood accurately. You won’t. I imagine one of DeBlasio’s pals will offer the solution by selling “high grade, low moisture” firewood for double or triple the amount you pay now or will sell “moisture measurement devices”. All the regulations always equate to profit and the liberal / progressives are too stupid to kniw they’re being played.

***staying warm is forbidden even unto death...***

Scene from BECKET:
King Henry is caught in a rainstorm and goes to a hovel.
Henry” “Give me fire and warmth!”
Becket: “You will find no fire here sire.”
Henry: “And why is that!”
Becket: “Every hovel is allowed two measures of wood a yer. One stick more and they are hanged.”
Henry: “My edict?”
Becket: “Your edict sire.”

Then there is that scene from Dr Zhivago where the Dr is stealing wood for warmth and is caught by his brother the commie comissar.

You could get one of these and then document every piece of wood you chuck into the fireplace.

"That’s because electricity comes from that outlet thingy on the wall and doesn’t pollute."

And, it's free. (...as long as it's someone else's outlet.)

Yeah, he’s a typical commie. But seriously, how many wood-burning fireplaces are there in NYC?

But a fireplace fire is pretty on occasion.

I highly recommend pellet stoves, though. A good one will save you 50% on your oil bill. That's been our experience.

Ah yes, the NY City Dept of Wood.

You’ll need a dept head @ $350,000 a year, a director @ $275k per year. At least two or three dozen inspectors @ 150k per year another dozen armed enforcement officers for the dept @ at least 125k per year. And several dozen support staff, call center employess @ 75k+ a year. Just to start.

Viola instant job growth.....

New wood is too difficult to light, I only burn old wood.
