Group plans LGBT campaign in 3 Deep South states

A national organization is launching a three-year, $8.5 million campaign to promote LGBT equality and push for new legal protections in three Southern states dominated by conservative politics and religion and known for resistance to change: Alabama, Arkansas and Mississippi.

Decades after groups used boycotts, marches, sit-ins, pickets and mass rallies to end legalized racial segregation and push for equal protection for blacks, the Washington-based Human Rights Campaign is planning a new kind of civil rights movement. It’s one based on using chats and front-porch visits between relatives and friends to foster an environment more welcoming toward people of all sexual orientations.

The idea is simple, and it’s borne out in polls: People are less likely to oppose expanded rights and acceptance if they know and care for someone who’s gay. Activists hope that’s particularly true in a region that values hospitality. …

And yet these “persons” claim that they are not forcing their perverse lifestyle down America’s throat.

For what it’s worth, a good friend of my wife is “lesbian” and lives in Mississippi.

For what it’s worth, she has never said anything about a negative social climate, or difficulties in being gay in the deep south. For what it’s worth, she moved there from up north, and to the contrary, has talked about how warm and friendly the south is by comparison.

She’s openly gay, and lives with a woman partner. And she has nothing bad to say about the allegedly bad climate for gays in Mississippi.

Full throttle sodomy—it MUST be celebrated and endorsed by America’s families, churches, governments.

If they know and care for someone who’s gay — decent people will encourage that person to get treatment for that maladjustment.

Perhaps those who have escaped the lifestyle ought to speak out loudly and confront the propaganda artists. But they are often shouted down.

Activists hope that’s particularly true in a region that values hospitality. …

They'll likely find out the hard way about, "southern hospitality", if they try preaching queerdom to the wrong group of "good ole boys".

For whatever reason, (my observation only), people seem to be more accepting of women homos than men homos.

“chats and front-porch visits”. Hows that going to work? Won’t work where I live. Folks don’t chat with strangers and any strangers that show up on the front porch are greeted with a shot gun.

Being acquainted or even related to someone gay is one thing. Being deeply familiar with their actual conduct behind closed doors is another thing entirely. This is the gap in comprehension that activists are exploiting, since most straights really don’t want to know, and usually project their own sentimental notions onto gays, regardless of the actual facts. Behind closed doors are significantly higher rates of pathology and abuse for significant numbers of participants in the lifestyle.
