Apple has determined that the sleep/wake button mechanism on a small percentage of iPhone 5 models may stop working or work intermittently. iPhone 5 models manufactured through March 2013 may be affected by this issue.

Apple will replace the sleep/wake button mechanism, free of charge, on iPhone 5 models that exhibit this issue and have a qualifying serial number.

The sleep/wake button is located on the top of your iPhone 5:

Check serial # on site to see if your phone is eligible. I read about this on a thread over on Slick Deals - "Apple iPhone 5 Sleep/Wake Button Recall" and a lot of people had this problem and paid out of pocket to fix it. Hopefully Apple will refund them for this being it was a factory defect.

Hi Swordmaker,

And while Apple fixes a minor but annoying hardware flaw, Microsoft scrambles to fix a major and dangerous software flaw:

New zero day vulnerability identified in all versions of IE (FR thread)

What a day.

Check this out (from the Apple page):
If you require a loaner during the time that your iPhone is being serviced, participating Apple Retail Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers will have iPhone 5 models (16GB only) available.
That's pretty darn good service, considering the repair is being done for free already.

I had my button replaced, then it went south again. I bought the 5s.

Looks like I’m headed to the Apple store.

Apple will have the Chinese workers organs harvested for this indiscretion!

I plan on buying their stock. I will sell my Ford stock as it has meandered between $9 and $17+ dollars now for years. Highest it got was a bit below $19 over 3 years ago.

If I bought Apple ($125) when I instead bought Ford at the end of April 2009 ($5.25) I would have about 100% more money when at it’s peak of $700 then Ford (now at lower price it would be about 50% more). For 1 year from 2009, Ford outperformed Apple. Ford was and is a safe bet but cannot do much in the democrat bad economy. Now if I bought Apple in 2003 when I had more money to invest instead of gateway (which is why I have less money now...) I would be a millionaire.

I figure with the new iPhone 6 coming in Sept and flexible screen phones coming after that, that the stock hopefully will go up and up.

I may “only” double my money. Any suggestions on stock to make me rich? : )

My 5 has had sleep/wake button issues for a while and my serial is eligible so I’ll be taking it in. Thanks for the ping.

My serial number matches but I have had no issues with the sleep button so far.

Of course I hardly ever use it.
