Black students at schools in Wichita and surrounding districts are disciplined at higher rates than their white peers, a trend that mirrors racial disparities throughout the country, according to the most comprehensive survey of school civil rights data in nearly 15 years.
The findings, part of an expansive survey of America’s public schools by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights, shows that black students are more likely than whites to be suspended or expelled at middle and high schools in Wichita and most area districts.
Education officials say it’s difficult to pinpoint reasons for the disparities. But local civil rights advocates say overzealous discipline policies or practices continue to target minority students, pulling them out of classrooms and often into the court system. “Statistics speak for themselves,” said David Gilkey, a gang prevention coordinator for the Urban League of Kansas.
“Nothing changes if nothing changes, you know what I mean?” Gilkey said. “It’s been going on for years. This is not nothing new. We just don’t usually talk about it, but it’s coming to the point where we need to address it now.”
Data for the 2010-11 school year shows that nationally, while black students represented 16 percent of overall school enrollment, they represented 32 percent of students suspended in school, 33 percent of students suspended out of school, and 34 percent of students expelled.
In Wichita public schools, black students made up about 18 percent of total enrollment in 2010-11. They accounted for nearly 22 percent of in-school suspensions, 25.6 percent of out-of-school suspensions and nearly 34 percent of expulsions.
Suspend them for what you might ask?

If that’s the case then it is obvious what needs to happen. Education officials need to get their money back from where they received their diploma. Because it is clear they are clueless.
I bet you that black students make up a racially disparate percentage of the basketball team and the sprinters on the track team. I bet that non-black students make up a racially disparate percentage of honor roll and graduation qualifiers.
For example,"Treyvon and Quintavius robs a 7/11. Dey gets $143. Is this enough to buy crack rocks for bof of dem or will dey needs to rob another store?"

Right.
It is commonly believed the school administrators and teachers, both of which who are overwhelmingly liberal, and would bend over backwards to give blacks every possible benefit of the doubt.
Either:
1) Black students are really a greater discipline issue, in general, or
2) Liberals are more racist than is commonly believed.
Either or both is quite plausible. I have experience that both is plausible.
The problem with your statistics is that they are based solely upon skin color and nothing else. If you had statistics which demonstrated that black kids who get caught breaking the rules have a higher suspension rate than white kids who get caught breaking those same rules, then you have a case. Otherwise, your statistics are meaningless.

Of course. If they say that minority kids are break the law more, the will lose their jobs.
Two of the most dangerous words in the English language are “Disparate Impact”. This is the notion that there’s no need to consider the source or cause of any racial imbalance or inequality. The mere existence of the inequality is sufficient to prove wrong doing and require reparations. (This also works for evaluating women’s pay scales versus men’s.) Essentially it is a blank check for unlimited social engineering and wealth redistribution. Karl Marx would be in ecstasy.
I don’t know if the concept of disparate impact is an invention of the Obama administration, but I sure never heard of it before Obama and Holder took office.
A childhood friend of mine had an alcoholic father who’d spank both him and his brother and sister, if any one of them had done something wrong, for “fairness.” What does that sort of mindlessness teach? Fear, avoidance and lying, that’s what it teaches. Me, I think his dad was just a mean drunk and it was an excuse to take it out on his kids. Of those three, my former childhood friend is a messed up adult with substance abuse problems, his sister was shot and killed before she got out of her teens by a violent boyfriend, and the youngest son is a personal injury lawyer who won’t have anything to do with his family.
Dang. Forgot that part.
That’s not the root cause.
Here’s a “rooter” cause:
Government policies that incentivize the situation where black kids grow up without fathers married to their mothers.
False premise since the white students probably do not misbehave nearly as badly as the black students, or with the same degree of intensity.

I had always thought it ridiculous that Schoolteachers - being in one of the more liberal professions, being taught by people who were mostly liberal at institutions ranging from "liberal" to "Raging Liberal", and being steeped in liberalism for most of their lives - would all of a sudden become racist. Unless, as you stated, libs are more racist than commonly believed.

Of course they do. It's politically incorrect to state the obvious truths. We are also confused about why minorities are over represented in prison (with regards to % of populations). Let's just say it's racism instead of talking the reasons for it. This way we can lower the standards for just one segment of the population to make statistics look better. This way we can reconsider the problem later when we again can't figure out why minorities are underemployed and over represented on entitlement programs and in poverty statistics. Thank gawd for democrats. Otherwise we might slow or reverse this cyclical trend.
Black adults represent about 13% of the total US population yet are 50% of the convicted felons, so the schools are just part of the Head Start program.
Career training begins early for the black yutes, mama is a ho and sells crack and there is a known male in only 24% of black tax payer funded, houses.
Since the Great Society debacle, which destroyed the black family, there has been little chance for young blacks to become productive, law abiding citizens.

Displinary action is for the student's benefit, not his detriment. Students who respond to discipline in the manner intended become better students and, ultimately, better people.
Therefore, if those on the left complain about the application of discipline, one must conclude that these outcomes are not desired by the left for students of color.
Guess Rahm needs to line up whites to be shot in equal numbers to address the inequity....
If anyone — white, black, brown, green, purple — was disciplined unfairly, take it up with school staff. Otherwise STFU on the racism crap.
