Why Kentucky might 'Ditch Mitch'
bbc.com ^ | 4/28/14 | Mark Mardell

The latest battle in the Republican civil war is the campaign to get rid of one of the longest serving, most prominent conservatives in US politics.

I'm here at the Ronald Reagan Day Diner at Kentucky's Russell County middle school to find out why some want to "Ditch Mitch" - Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader in the Senate.

Amid the oval and rectangular tables, some draped with T-shirts and banners, a 16-year-old girl takes to the stage. As they tuck into the country buffet of chicken, ham, green beans and cornbread (no alcohol, this is a dry county) she intones:

"Yes, Mr Obama, there are two Americas - not the have and the have not's, but the wills and the won'ts".

The 300 or so Republicans here like the sentiment - President Barack Obama has built an army of the feckless with welfare cheques - and it is hard for honest, decent, hardworking folk to beat him at the ballot box.

It is what Mitt Romney said in the 2012 election with his remarks about 47% of Americans. That caused outrage on the left. It is the accepted wisdom here.

'Hungry to be heard'

The diatribe is just the warm-up act at the dinner. But this evening is not just about self-congratulation - the corridor is lined with Republicans fighting it out for the plum elected jobs in the state and in the local area.

In this county, a Republican is going to win every one of them - it is just a question of which Republican.

But the prize, which will be a real contest with the Democrats, is for Kentucky US senator. The first contest is again, an internal one.

But Mitch is missing - a factotum reads a letter of apology, and a video is played.

Imagine him as Senate MAJORITY leader when the GOP take the Senate.

A McConnell aid said:

He says that a fellow who's married compromises every day. If he doesn't, he's not going to stay married. He'll end up with half his stuff and no wife. If he compromises, he can have all his stuff and a wife. That's the danger for the Republican party, he tells me.

This reminds me of the Rules of Engagement TV sitcom where the married oaf is approached by a soon-to-be-married guy who asks how he managed to stay married for 15 years. His response: "Compromise"

"What do you mean?"

"Well, Audrey wanted a cat. I hate cats, so we compromised. We got a cat."

The GOP and Mitch in particular have compromised their principles away to the point where I don't see Republicans getting anything in return. We just heard that the GOP is caving in on Obozocare and immigration. We've seen Mitch lead the charge for more spending. After all, giving away free cells phones can only make sense if you're buying votes with our. If it's such a good idea to give deadbeats a free phone, how about using your own money for once?

It's time for Mitch and his ilk to call it a day and I hope the people of KY make it happen.

Per the link above, anyone who cares to can see Mardell, BBC’s editor in the U.S. and living in DC, IS TOTALLY IN for Obama. This particular critic at the link just roasts Mardell on a spit across the board and generally for being hard left and a committed Obama lover.

That Senator, I say that Senator has more cave in him than Mammoth Cave, and less fight than a sack of wet mice.

Yeah, well half of our stuff is gone and we’re still stuck with McConnell. With a divorce, I suppose we’ll still be missing half of our stuff but at least we won’t have Mitchie Boy conspiring with Reid behind our backs.

Mitch is a wimp and he’ll lose in November if he doesn’t lose to Bevin first.

LHe says that a fellow who's married compromises every day. If he doesn't, he's not going to stay married.

Then get divorced or marry someone with your same feelings - like the Dems do.

Yeah I can imagine it. It will be exactly like the last five years, except instead of Harry Reid running rough shod over the Republicans, it will be the Republicans caving to every Democrat desire. Seriously, do you think the next dept ceiling debate will end any differently if Republicans are in control of congress?

Almost stopped reading right there.

McConartist is no conservative. He's a sleazebag.

But this is the BBC who are always so friggin out of touch with the facts. They are easily duped by scammers like this one from KY.

Here’s an analogy my fellow Kentuckians would quickly grasp: McConnell is a basketball coach that makes it to the NCAA every year and then deliberately throws the first game out of spite for the fans.

So, you’re a Kentuckian. What’s the pulse of the man on the street? Will there be a small turn-out and does Bevin have a chance?

The advertising is relentless and McConnell’s are ruthless and nasty. Only Bevin yard signs and bumper stickers are seen in my neck of the woods. KY has a chance, if Bevin wins.
