The Right Sector is the most radical wing of Ukraine's Maidan protest movement that toppled President Viktor Yanukovych in February.
Originally set up as an alliance of ultra-nationalist groups in November 2013, the Right Sector is now a party and its leader, Dmytro Yarosh, is running for president in the 25 May election - although his poll rating is negligible.
Critics at home say the party's inflammatory rhetoric and violence is helping Russian media to depict Ukraine as overrun with "neo-Nazis" who threaten the Russian-speaking population.
The Right Sector is trying to portray itself as a responsible party, but enough doubts remain about its attitude and intentions to cause unease in both pro-Kiev and pro-Moscow camps.
Protest role
Activists claiming to be Right Sector members were involved in Kiev's Maidan protests from late November, but the group did not attract much attention until violent clashes with police in central Kiev on 19 January, in which it played a leading role.
By early February Mr Yarosh was saying the Right Sector had 500 fighters on Independence Square and could mobilise up to 5,000 nationwide, although close observers of the protests doubt this.

I have said already on this thread that when the Nazis and Commies went at it in the Parliament I couldn’t care mucg for either side. BTW, not much reporting on the commies in Ukraine, but a BUNCH on Svoboda and Right Sector - from the left and the right.

I remember when they were reporting about the US backing the Neo-Nazi’s in Ukraine and the US appointing them to the new Government. I was especially surprised Salon had chimed in. ....But that was before our media was told they could NOT use the word Nazi in writing or reporting on Ukraine....this then we saw all sorts of “other” names used to define the otherwise obvious.
Now Ukraine has to deal with the ‘hoards of them’ who have come in from other country’s once the word was sent out to gather there.
Love the fact some of us were onto this right from the get go and tried to inform....only to be continually shot down for doing so. It does pay to investigate rather than simply accept the MSM feeding the sheep.
Anyone who believes media even now needs to be careful because it will soon frame Slovada as being “moderate” as they do with the Islamists.

Why is the Russian foreign ministry supporting Neo Nazi Pavel Gubarev? Just yesterday they put a PR demanding his release. Is that SOP in Putin’s Russia?
Russian apologists like to play up the radical presidential candidate with 0.7% support in the polls.
That is like covering US next elections focusing solely on Roseanne Barr.
