Great for certain situations in which drugs, drug paraphernalia, weapons, etc. present probable cause, but, how many times will this lead to imagined or manufactured probable cause that wouldn't pass the smell test. In today's environment of increased government & police power, & the evolving militarization of police departments across the country, how much easier does this make it for a police officer to cross the line?
The decision doesn't prevent an officer from still asking for a consent search.
Also, as a non-lawyer, I was surprised that this was a state decision & not already decided at the federal level as a 4th amendment issue.

This is the norm, not an exception. In most of the nation PC is needed to search a vehicle, not a warrant. To say nothing of consent to search or inventorying an impounded vehicle.
This article is a bit of scare mongering only relevant to PA residents, the rest of you already live under this system. If that is repugnant to any readers here, then I would strongly recommend that said readers learn more about the laws they are subject to, as it is difficult to change what you don’t know exists in the first place.

And if that probable cause is there, they're likely being arrested and the car is inventoried (searched) as part of the impoundment process. If there isn't enough evidence for an arrest, and the cop really wants to search the car that bad, they can sit and wait for a judge to sign the warrant.
