Instead, Graham, counter to the early prognostications of many, has quelled any potential threats from Tea Party insurgents and, two months ahead of the Republican primary, is cruising to a third term in the Senate -- still gleefully tackling those controversial topics that might have made him vulnerable in the first place.
Graham is in this position by no accident. Wary of other incumbents who have not prepared for competitive re-election campaigns and lost, Graham and his campaign team have spent the intervening years raising money and shoring up support among South Carolina's political class -- all but guaranteeing Graham's path to victory.
...
Grahams comfortable lead in this election also has afforded him the opportunity to speak out early and often, even at home in South Carolina, about his stances that might be controversial among the partys conservative base.
If [Republicans] get the Senate, we can't repeal Obamacare, because the president would veto any bill to repeal it, Graham said matter-of-factly in Simpsonville. But you know what we can do? We can chip away at it.
A full repeal of Obamacare is still very much in vogue for many conservative Republicans, but Graham was forthright about the facets of the health care law he supports -- allowing children to remain on their parents' plan until age 26, for example, and providing insurance for people with pre-existing conditions.

No Democrat who stabs his own constituency in the back on a regular basis would ever be allowed three terms.
It is an opinion piece. Graham is somewhere between 40% and 60%. He still has to survive a primary and a concerted effort to remove him even if it means electing a Democrat.
He’s at the top of my despise (in GOP) list.
STFU you loathsome nancy boy.
I'm no fan of Ms Grahamsesty. And, I have scores of posts hereabouts to attest to this.
That said, even a RINO is preferred, if there were no other alternative to a Marxist/Dem.
It's not about sending a message, it's about practical politics. It's about repealing obamacare and preserving the Second amendment.
We must have rigorous and confrontational debates within our party, in the primaries. Then, support whoever wins against the Marxists.
The divisive, lying fungus Ross Perot made this point more eloquently than anyone else can ever do
.
Puff piece on a p****-puffer.
So vote for the guy who says Obamacare can't be repealed?
"Then, support whoever wins against the Marxists."
And when the person who wins enables the Marxists, what's gained?
Bullcrap - the primary is 6 weeks away.
Liberal media article, liberal media poll. They want him renominated.
Whichever candidate you’re for, conservatives have to work hard and keep Goober under 40 percent. Then unite in the runoff behind whichever conservative survives.
This is why the country is dying. Republicans are truly the stupid party. You are all talk. No intelligence. I noticed even the callers to talk radio are becoming stupider, as well. We are doomed. WE'LL PUT A BOOT IN YOUR ASS IT'S THE UH-MURRICAN WAY...
reg state=red state
Obamacare repeal does not hinge on Lindsey Graham being there in 2015 or 2017.
Cruz was farther behind in the polls a month before his election.
Pray America wakes up
Vote for the lizard of your choice, otherwise the wrong lizard might get elected.
Why do your job so the voters will have a REASON to like you when you can just hoodwink them will ill-gotten campaign cash and dirty quid-pro-quot endorsements?
McCain cheats in elections. Except when the opponent is a Marxist. Then he endorses the guy and falls on his sword.
He will remain a US Senator BECAUSE of the stupid tea party. Though clash of egos and a failure to mount an effective opposition, they will hand victory to him.
Ideology is not enough. To win elections takes money, organization, and a willingness to work for a common goal instead of ones ego. Maybe if all the rest of the weak candidates were to drop out, the superPACs like Club for Growth where to drop, say, $5 million into Lee Bright’s campaign, there would be a chance. But I think they know it’s a slim one, and since none of the others has the sense to drop out and give one conservative a chance, it won’t happen.
>>We must have rigorous and confrontational debates within our party, in the primaries. Then, support whoever wins against the Marxists.<<
The “hold your nose and vote for him because the other guy is worse” mentality. Tell me quick, how many times have the RINOs followed that advice when the Tea Party candidate wins the primary? ZERO.
In AK, RINOs got their way with a massive write-in. In DE,RINOs voted for a Marxist. In NV, RINOs joined the Marxists to trash the Tea Party candidate.
So, keep holding your nose and get the government you deserve.
