Hey, all I want is the U.S. to stay out of this. The past few years (Benghazi, possibly getting real close to the WH arming syrian “rebels” and the mess of Egypt with the “highly secular” Muslim Brotherhood being supported by the WH in Egypt, (and the long Middle East wars fought by the U.S. before them) I think its time to put the brakes on the interventionism.
While they may not constitute the majority of the fighters, they seem to be the most brazen, and perhaps like the Syrian elements that McCain photo opted with who were the ones that seemed to be the most hardened, perhaps it would be wise to stay out of this.
Some at FR want to ride the Dr. StrangeMcCain rocket, though.

My impression is that you want Russia to annex Ukraine, which is what will happen if we stand aside. Providing Ukrainians are willing to fight, we can prevent Russia from taking over by giving them $1b or so in weaponry a year. Not even big ticket items - LAW's, Javelins and Stingers to bleed the Russians. Obviously, a little training in the basics of constructing IED's and carrying out RPG ambushes against Russian convoys and patrols would go a long way. These are our casualties from Iraq:

If Ukrainians are able to send 100 Russians home in body bags a month, I expect Russian public opinion will eventually buckle and force Putin to do a U-turn.
While I am sure that the Ukraine has always had, and will always have, its share of bad actors - it is a colorful sideshow for a press that is easily distracted by shiny objects.

Whatever the legitimacy of the vote, it's not for Russia to attempt to annex the country, any more than it would be legitimate for the US to annex Canada because of a rigged vote. Nobody has any issues with Russia protesting the vote. It's Russia's annexation of the Crimea and its attempt to annex the Ukraine that is drawing criticism and potential military aid to Ukraine.
Let me ask you a question point-blank. If Russia annexes Ukraine and an insurgency springs up, should we supply the insurgents?

Yes, we must always abide by our NATO allaince agreements and I wholeheartedly support this, but NATO is a DEFENSIVE charter, and Ukraine is NOT a member of NATO.

Russians should be fighting the muslim terrorists running wild all over their own territory, but instead the psychotic Putin has sent them to invade and pillage the lands of Russia's Christian neighbors. What a disgrace.
Inaccessible? Ukraine is bordered by Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, and Modova, as well as Russia.
I'm not making an argument for U.S. action one way or the other, but Ukraine is not remote in a post-Iron Curtain Europe.
