House Judiciary Committee chairman Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) said Friday at Hollywood’s “Creativity Conference” in Washington that there is a “grand bargain” in the works on amnesty.
ABC News’s Rick Klein Tweeted that Goodlatte told ABC reporter Jon Karl at the event that he is “still searching for ‘grand bargain’ on status of undocumented immigrants,” and that Goodlatte does “believe it will happen.”
Klein noted the comments came at the second annual “Creativity Conference,” an event hosted by the Motion Picture Association of America. The MPAA, which is run by former Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT), is hosting the event alongside Microsoft at the Newseum in Washington, D.C.
Microsoft has lobbied for amnesty, and endorsed the Senate’s “Gang of Eight” immigration bill last year. Its headquarters is in the district of House GOP conference chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers, who recently suggested there is a plan to bring immigration bills to the floor by August that would provide “legal status” to millions of illegal aliens.
Goodlatte’s role on immigration is crucial. His committee has jurisdiction over the matter.
Goodlatte, however, would not predict during the interview when such amnesty legislation would pass. "My job isn’t to predict when it’s going to happen. My job is to build the consensus that we need to have immigration reform,” Goodlatte said.
Sen. David Vitter (R-LA), an opponent of amnesty aligned with Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), Tweeted in response to Goodlatte that he was cutting a deal with President Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. "A 'grand bargain' w/ Reid & WH = amnesty," Vitter Tweeted.

1. Build a real wall on the border
2. Make the Border Patrol understand their job is to stop illegal crossings.
3. Clamp down on employers of illegals.
4. When illegals are caught through traffic stops, criminal arrest, or confession, put them on a bus to the border, open the door and say, "Vaya Con Dios".
Boehner must be out of the Speaker’s chair before the lame duck session.
Is that even possible?
The republicans will not approve amnesty prior to the election unless they do not want to win. (And it’s possible that they do not want to win.)
The lame duck remains their best shot, though. Boehner can ignore the Hastert Rule, pull in democrat votes, and then send it to the Senate where Harry Reid will extend the use of the nuke option if he has to.

Every time I hear those words, “grand bargain,” I’m reminded of just how full of themselves DC politicians are. Where did this phrase enter into the political lexicon? It should be lit up in neon, just beneath a giant “BOHICA.” It never means anything good for taxpayers.
The RINOs are sensing that they can pass amnesty yet still retain the House and possibly win the Senate.

I am all for what you are saying here, but what are you going to do with the chinese, africans, arabs, brazilians, south americans that are coming across. Mexico does not want them back.

And since the congress is not willing to force him to enforce the law, no bargain is possible.
It is seppuku, both for GOP and the country as a whole. We do need to win over minority voters, but not by throwing out the rules and trying to out pander the Dems.
